About Me

My name is Asher. It's an easy name to remember... I was born in Charleston, but spent the majority of my life in Conway/Myrtle Beach. My parental units split when I was young so I spent a lot of summers and Christmases traveling around the globe w/ my father. I think it gave me a more open perspective than I otherwise would've had. I graduated from Coastal Carolina University w/ a major in Communication and a minor in Journalism. After working in television sales for a a year, I took the position of Director of Operations for an Interior Design Firm for about 7 months. I'm currently owner/partner of a logistics & warehousing company called New School SSI (http://www.myspace.com/newschoolssi). It's not exactly what I pictured myself doing for a profession, but I enjoy being my own boss..... and its only the beginning. I'm a pretty active dude.... I've always got enough hobbies to take up every minute of every day. It might seem a little excessive to some, but I feel like the things you're passionate about make you who u are. I'll never be the type to watch life pass me by. My latest obsession is the fight sports. It's basicly a fun way to stay in shape, but like anything I do... I end up taking it a little farther than that. I started boxing for about a year, then kickboxing for a couple years, now its brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Unlike the striking game, I found I had a natural talent for submission grappling. I enjoy competing & enjoy training even more (which is a sure sign that you love it). I train under Shane Briggs in affliation with Relson Gracie(come check us out: http://www.jiujitsunation.com/). My training partners have become some of my closest friends, and my brother has even begun going w/ me to class(it's better than me beating him up at home).Jiu-Jitsu is not as much a sport as it is a lifestyle, a concept which only those who do it can understand. Though I'm basicly a beginner, Jiu-Jitsu & the fight game in general will be friends of mine for life. I have a lot of goals & aspirations..... I feel like setting standards and expectations is the best way to get what u want out of life. Some are small, while others are big.... however, if you asked me to just give you one, it would be this: To Take Over The World..... & do it before I'm 30. Sure it may sound a little lofty, but I think its attainable. Yeah, one might say that I'm a little behind right now... but I'm just pacing myself. I gotta work out all the kinks before makin my move. The way I look at it, I got one shot at this whole "life" thing, and life is a difficult thing to gauge. In fact, the older I get the more I realize I don't know shit. But I have learned a couple things that I live by. Some are cheesy, but they are all for real. This is what I try to live by everyday: 1)Be Real & Be Honest- There are so many people u meet with multiple faces. I'm not one of them. I don't care if you love me or you hate me. I am who am... no apologies.Haters are everywhere. They are the number one problem in the world. The nicest person in the world has haters. They are a disease.... but a nessecary one. They let you know when ur really on ur game. Ya see, misery loves company. Hence no one outside of ur immediate friends & family want u to succeed. People who complain or bitch or criticize are people who wish they were you. No one likes seeing people pass them by on their way to bigger & better shit. Haters want conformity. Don't buy into it. All you really have in life is ur word. Stay true to who u are and who u want to be. Fuck everybody else. (rant..) 2)No Regrets- Older, wiser people have always told me that towards the end of your life, u will regret not doing all kinds of the things u could have. My goal is to make the amount of regrets as small as possible. This means if I wanna get a huge tattoo today, I'm gettin it. If I wanna pack my shit up & leave tommorrow, I'm doin it. Does this lead to mistakes? Of course it does. But u make 'em, u learn from 'em, and u keep it movin. For me, this attitude means trusting my instincts... if it feels right, do it. You can't be afraid to fail. I don't let failing get to me anymore. To me, its just part of the process. I've never regretted trying something, only not giving something my all. 3) Life is about Relationships- Relationships and emotional connections are what make the human race special. My close friends and family are the most important thing in the world to me. I'm gonna take over the world so I can give it to them. 4) Laugh- Its easy, it costs nothing. Makes u live longer. I will never take myself serious enough that I can't laugh at my screw-ups. 5) Confidence- Everyone's mother tells them that they are different & special. the only problem w/ me is I believed her. Why not? What can u possibly gain from thinking ur average or worthless? Believing in ur ability to do anything is what makes u successful, attractive, etc. Confidence is an aura & an attitude that carries over into everything u do. The key is be humble enough to access where you stand, take criticism, and change yourself for the better, but also be confident enough to know what u have and be proud of it. There are enough doubters in the world that u should never have to doubt yourself. I really believe I'm destined to to do something great. I just don't know what it is yet. Maybe take over the world....
