Pretty simple really, I'm the lucky one. I use to be the guy your mother warned you about or loved to death, might still be him. You will mainly find me doing one of two things. Playing guitar or driving my cars. Other than that on a car or guitar forum, at Virginia International Raceway or at an HPDE somewhere.
I've been a single parent for quite a while now. I have a 25 year old son who lives with me when he's not at UNC Asheville or the University of Hiroshima in Japan going to school. I think he's turning Japanese. No, not like that. His last girlfriend Tomomi is Japanese, lives in Yamaguchi. When he was at home working or studying they were talking back and forth on the headset and camera setup....in Japanese. Ever watch an earthquake as it's happening over the internet, it's rather interesting. He plans on moving there after he graduates from college next year. I guess at some point I'll get to go there, which I'm really looking forward to doing.
Anyway, I got on here for the fun of it because half the North Carolina Rotary crew and way too many people from the RX-7 club were. Then I found out about everything else and started running into all the bands and musicians I've worked and done business with over the years. Interesting place..... I've been meeting some new people and it's been kinda cool, especially since I wasn't expecting or looking to when I got on here.
I grew up working on cars, owned a 1970 Dodge Challenger. Between that and my best friend who had "a way" with his cars I got to turn a lot of wrenches. I also worked as a line mechanic for a little while and with Steve Coleman from Team Highball fame (an IMSA/SCCA racing team) in the mid 70's between college and bands. Got to hang out in a real race shop, work on some real race cars, go to a few races, see a lot of great cars and meet a few great drivers.
For the past few years I've been playing around with cars again. I own a 1988 Mazda RX-7 Convertible that's my daily driver and a 1991 Mazda RX-7 Turbo that's my baby. I take a lot of road trips, go to a lot of car club meets and club events, and spend as much time as possible at VIR for IMSA/SCCA races and High Performance Driving Events.
I also love to drive whenever I can the infamous Deals Gap "Tail of the Dragon" in the NC & TN mountains. It's listed as one of the top 5 driving roads in America for sports cars and bikes. For those of you not familiar with the Tail of the Dragon, it's 318 turns in 11 miles from the Tabcat bridge to the NC/TN state line.
Here's a video from the Deals Gap Rotary Rally 2007 meet where I was filmed while running with the "fast group". The Miata in front of me is supercharged and loud! An FD is behind me with a camera mounted on the roof. Time wise it wasn't the fastest run due to being behind some slow people, mainly from about the 9:00 minute mark to the 14:00 minute mark, but otherwise we were running pretty hard and having some fun.
I'm also a musician which is my first love I guess you could say. I always knew as a kid it was what I wanted to do and in between everything else I done or gone through in my life it's been who I really am. If you're a band or musician, or you want to check out that part of my life look for my music profile somewhere in my top friends.
Cars, guitars and women.... What's a guy to do?
My favorite band, The Allman Brothers.
And last but not least...Her vocals and his guitar work are some of my favorite of all time.
