THE J TEAM is the production team of DOUGH (FROM DA GO),CHASE DAVIS, PHEWCHA BEATS and TWAN MAKK, specializing in Sampled and/or original music compositions and audio production services.
Our studio setup's are equipped with all of the great gear you could wish for but, because DOUGH MUZIK is not a 'studio for hire', we are not tied to any specific studio...including our own. We have strong professional relationships with access to large-format recording studios for projects that require them.
We believe that great work is more about the ear than the gear.
:: HOW WE WORK ::
Composition Style
DOUGH brings very versatile music styles to the table. Yet, for all of his parallel background and experience, DOUGH has a very distinct flavor.
It's this perfect marriage of musical common ground and individual style
that makes the diverse music of THA J TEAM so Three-Dimensional and Dynamic.
CHASE DAVIS is the "Hammer" PHEWCHA brings
"Cenamatic and Dramatic" Approaches.
TWAN MAKK comes with "BASS KNOCKIN" heat.
No matter which team member dreams up an idea, it's always finished with the input of ALL composers. This ensures that all of their work consistantly maintains their unique sound and noticable depth.
When the guys are asked to create music or sound environments to
match a visual, they really strive to understand the entire vision of the project.
(Production Style)Not all producers and artists are a good match. The way a producer communicates will directly affect how an artist performs, and in turn,
how the final product sounds. In the writing and preproduction stages,
both Dough and Chase Davis like to just have fun and experiment,
with no preconceived expectations or limitations. The recording and production stages, on the other hand, are much more focused for
TWAN MAKK and Dough. By this time, they have a very clear idea
of where the project is heading and a strong understanding of how
to make that vision a reality. They have a very direct and to-the-
point production style and tend to have a ' just the facts' approach
to producing and recording. We believe in constant and honest communication. We prefer to work with artists who can take (and
hopefully welcome) constructive criticism and who understand and
appreciate that this is a vital role of our job of capturing their very
best performance.
:: TOOLS WE USE ::
Again, Tha J Team/DOUGH MUZIK is not a production
team for Hire. However, we realize some people are just curious
as to what gear we use to achieve our sound. Well, here's a short
list of some of our most used and recommended gear.
Digital Audio Workstations:
Dual Protools/ Nuendo/Cubase Systems running on
3Ghz P4 computers with 2GB Corsair Memory, removable HD
storage, and DVD back up on Windows XP Pro.
Microphones:
Neumann-U87, AKG-C414, Sennheiser-MD421, AKG-D112 and
many other drum and instrument mics through Drawmer microphone preamps and vintage Spectra-Sonics compressors.
Consoles:
Dual Yamaha Digital Consoles for in-house use, and one SSL analog
console for larger, off-site projects.
Monitors:
MAKIE HR824'S....Genelec 1031 and Genelec 1029 with Sub powered monitoring systems.
