BIO-Singer/Songwriter, Tanu, is taking the music industry by storm! A bit of pop, a dash of rock, with a splash of R&B meshes the new sound that is Tanu!East Indian-American songstress Tanu, was born and raised in Maryland where she honed her talent as a singer and songwriter. At age 7, she began to study classical piano and continued this tenure through her high school years. She joined various choirs and concert groups, and was able to perform at the Kennedy Center and on the White House steps for Presidential Inaugurations and events in the WPAS Children of the Gospel. This multi-talented beauty decided to take her talents seriously as a career, and joined a local R&B girl group in her area. They went on to sign a major recording contract with Elektra Records. During this time, Tanu was able to open up for artists such as Destiny’s Child, Mary Mary, Ashanti, and Musiq Soulchild, as well as performing on her first major stateside tour.Tanu continued on her path to stardom as a solo artist with a new sound all her own. Fusing together pop/alt, rock, and R&B elements, Tanu has created a sound that definitely holds its place in the music industry. Tanu has been able to record with major producers such as K1/The Beat Factory, Souldiggaz, Rocwilder, Sabastian, Detail, and Jarod B. Tanu gains her pop appeal from influences such as Pink, Beyonce, and Aaliyah. She enforces female empowerment and being independent as a young woman coming up in the world. Her staple is her egdy style and aggressive lyrics that she uses in each of her songs. “I feel like I shouldn’t have to hold back with what I say, lyrics are supposed to tell a personal story and that’s what I want my listeners to hear…what I really go through.†This singer is also known as the “the silent killer pen†using her songwriting skills on artists such as Amerie, Mya, Carmen (Atlantic), and Jada (Universal/Motown) to name a few. Tanu also gained a lead role in the stage play, A House Is Not a Home, where she was able to hone her live acting skills as a well-rounded entertainer.Tanu is also featured on Def Jam artist, Young Leek “I’m Back†album, and most recently featured on Too $hort’s “It Aint Over†feat.
