I believe I am here to change the face of talk radio – but I cannot do it alone ***I NEED YOUR HELP*** ... If you received a friend request from it was because your page struck a cord with me. Could have been something as simple as a great headline or as significant as a passionate blog or a comment of yours I read somewhere. I'm looking for people that don't like the way things are in their community and are always working to make the world "better than we found it" and are verbal while doing it! A daunting task yes, but less so when people work together. So if you are up to the task and are ready to go "all-in" with your grown ass man - welcome aboard!!! If this sounds like too much, I ask you to reconsider... think about it... Lil longer... mmmmm... longer still... Oh kay, now if you still think this is too much, then I apologize for wasting your time and wish you the best. (You may just want to subscribe to my blog, and that’s ok)
Now if you are still here, I look forward to interacting with you this year and working hard to change the status quo. Believe me, although you will not get email after email from me or a comment a week, you will feel very engaged with me... Not only will I post comments/email that I get from you, but many times I will read it ***LIVE ON THE AIR*** ... Now how many of your friends can do that? Huh? See I AM different... ****BACKGROUND****
First off, I AM NOT MY HAIR and as you can see Im not a band/singer/musician ... I am a talk radio host, with my own daily show afternoon 4p ~ 7p Mon-Fri on 900am WURD in Philadelphia ... I believe I am here (as my headline says) to change the FACE of talk radio... I'm younger and come from a different point of view than most talk show hosts that sit firmly to the right or left and fire verbal lobs from their anchored positions ... Me, I take shots at everyone; from the lying, conniving, sometimes diabolical republicans to the toothless, directionless, apologetic democrats; from the TV networks that still find it hard to have shows (not sit-coms) that portray minorities in a positive light and not play to the most common of stereotypes ... to the BETs and the Urban radio stations that are supposed to a source of positivity that end up doing more harm to their (my) communities than some of the most racist bigots this country has to offer ... Hey, where else can you hear a conversation on port security, terrorism and mid-term elections and the latest episodes of the WIRE, Americans Next Top Model, the Flavor of Love (Flavor Flavvvvv!), Idol and The Shield ...
Look, I grew up in the 80s I collected comic books (mostly X-Men) and Im addicted to video games (now just Madden)... I listened to Eric B and Rakim, Public Enemy, NWA and the Eurthythmics, Tribe Called Quest and George Michael, Michael Jackson and Simple Minds ... I watched Good Times and the Golden Girls (yeah I said it) I watched Whats Happening and McNeil/Leaher ... I like the Roots, Common, Jay Z and Sting ... I watched Friends and have seen almost every Real World version to date (Do you see the difference yet?)
(wait theres more) I have voted in every election since turning 21, graduated from college in four years (HAMPTON U! the real HU) and yet I think George Castanza is a genius of our times ... Every Sunday, I watch Meet the Press, as I get ready for 12 hours of the NFL ...
(football is my religion) ... I know first hand that racism is STILL very real in this country, but I also know the Black folks have a lot of work to do in our own community ...
My mother is a white, very liberal Quaker and my father was a conservative black Baptist preacher deeply involved in the civil rights movement ... I grew up in the hood (our house was broken into 3 times in four years, once while we were asleep) but I went to private schools... I am the product of divorce and have an extensive step family immersed in Latin culture (ay que lindo) ... My show reflects my background in its entirety When you listen, Im sure you will appreciate the uniqueness of my show and when you disagree, and I know you will - you can call-in/email me and say Al, man you have lost it!! ... youll be wrong, but Ill still be glad to hear your side ... LOL no gimmicks here, really I am about informing and entertaining and engaging in fun, intelligent and enlightening discourse ... I look forward to you joining me. Thanks for reading this much, you have done better than most I cant wait to hear from you!!!!
