It's Summertime!!!

About Me

Hello. How’s everyone in the MySpace universe? My name is Kenny. Some people refer to me as "Hash". I’m not sure whether or not it’s cool to have an illicit drug as a nickname. One day I heard it roll off the tongue of a former colleague and it stuck.
I am a radio announcer or, as they called it back then, a disc jockey. I got into the business by accident. I wanted to become a sports journalist but my marks in high school didn’t warrant an entry into some of the elite University programs so here I am spinning records. Which isn’t too bad. Play tunes, talk about anything, and get paid for it. Neat concept. Have a peek in the Companies section to see where I have worked.
Some say I’m shy, reserved. Others feel the shy guy thing is an act and that I’m really a player. I guess the ladies in my Friends section gave it away. The truth is I’m really outgoing but I wouldn’t make a total fool of myself.
I make a big deal in the fact that I come from Scarborough, not Toronto. It’s part of Toronto but Scarborough is where I grew up. It's been getting a bad rap of late because of the crime. But I will always boost my hometown the same way I do the Leafs. You should know that Scarborough is home to actor/comedian Mike Myers, musicians The Barenaked Ladies, racecar driver Paul Tracy. Not to mention hockey players like Anson Carter, Mike Ricci, Kevin Weekes, and Anthony Stewart.
Staying with hockey, I tell everyone I'm a fan of that team owned by Eugene Melnyk... but I'm not talking about the Senators (Pul-eeze!). The only other hockey team besides the Leafs that I root for is the St. Michael's Majors of the Ontario Hockey League.
I tend to get bored easily so I try to keep active by rollerblading, weight training, hitting the driving range, or working on projects. Everyday I strive to be better both professionally and personally. I try not to take things too seriously.
People who share my birthday include: Scream and Party of Five actress (and Canadian Girl) Neve Campbell, actor Clive Owen from Sin City and his new flick Shoot 'Em Up, Motley Crue and Rockstar: Supernova drummer Tommy Lee, singer Gwen Stefani, Lindsay Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac, and former Toronto Blue Jay and Baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield.

My Interests

I play all kinds of sports like hockey, football, soccer, and basketball. But baseball is my favourite because I was great at that game. Outside of sports I love playing poker. But I'm still trying to grasp the Texas Hold 'em concept. I am also an avid photographer and cigar connoisseur.

I'd like to meet:

Drinking buddies! Guys and gals who, like yours truly, like to have fun and hate staying in especially on a Friday or Saturday evening.

Current and former classmates and colleagues. I like to re-connect with the people who I enjoyed working with.

Sports fans! If you follow hockey, baseball, football, basketball I like to hear from you. I especially like to connect with Leafs fans around the world, not just here in Canada. Those who know who God's team really is.

Playboy playmates. Need I say more?

Music:

My first love is rock and roll. Much of my CD collection and on my computer is the classic variety. Some of my favs include Zeppelin, Doors, and Black Sabbath. Among current artists: Velvet Revolver, Queens of the Stone Age, and Foo Fighters. But I don't care much for the power ballad. In fact, I prefer "Get Busy" over "November Rain."

Movies:

Love action flicks. Reservoir Dogs and Fight Club are couple of my favs. Just about anything starring Clint Eastwood especially Westerns. Glengarry Glen Ross (coffee is for closers!!!). And what hockey fan does not like Slap Shot?

Television:

I recently caught on with Glenn Beck on CNN Headline News. A very thought-provoking and funny program. I still watch all 3 CSI series: Vegas, Miami, and NY. Pardon the Interruption. And Best Damn Sports Show Period.

Books:

Some of my favourite authors are conservative commentators like PJ O'Rourke, William F Buckley, and the Godfather, Rush Limbaugh. That may seem strange to some people but remember the late Johnny Ramone was a hardcore Republican. Others I enjoy reading are "How to Talk Dirty and Influence People" by Lenny Bruce and JD Salinger’s “Catcher in the Rye”.

Heroes:

I don't know if this is the exact place to put him but one guy I want to acknowledge is Alan Cross. Back in the eighties one of the best radio stations in Toronto was CFNY-FM, now 102.1 The Edge, where Alan was the afternoon jock. I'm a fan of his work especially the weekly Ongoing History of New Music show. Alan is now Program Director at The Edge but a number of years ago while in Hamilton he gave me my big break in radio and I thank him for that.
