About Me
Sporting a personality as vibrant as his native land, Benny-Demus is racking up credits as an entertainer extraordinaire. Writing, rapping, producing and DJing, you name it, he makes it happen. If you know anything about him, you know that he is success driven. Though he is a native of the Virgin Islands, no one can limit this hit maker to only a reggae sound. You've probably moved to his grooves and not even known it. Having produced for artists ranging from Akon, Rock City, Slim Calhoun, Tanto Metro and Devante, Bobby Creekwater, Sunny Valentine, Emmanuel Lewis, and Fish Scales of Nappy Roots to working with producers such as Mr. DJ, Sol Messiah, Khalifani, Organized Noize, and others; his production skills have been hailed as new breed and unparalleled. Plainly put, Benny-Demus is something of a natural wonder.DJ Benny-D., as he is known, first ventured to touch the wheels of steel around the age of nine. He learned to mix it up under the strict tutelage of his older brother Francis -already a well known DJ on the island- and by the seventh grade, he had the house party scene firmly under control. As Demus grew, so did his skills as a DJ. He kicked off his professional career in quite an unusual fashion. His first regular paying gig came as the house DJ for a local strip club - which he admits he used to sneak into - when a friends stint there ended. Demus immediately made an impact which only grew deeper after he picked up the ability to engage the crowd more with live interaction. He was soon recruited to open the INSOMNIA night club alongside DJ Pete, another local tablist. This move sealed his spot as the DJ of choice for VI partygoers.Upon high school graduation, Demus headed for the U.S. and enrolled in college on a basketball scholarship. Unfortunately, injury ended his ability to compete in the sport and he returned to the VI to contemplate his next move. Turning his attention back full strength to the 1's and 2's, he was approached by the rap duo 2EKWHIP and they joined forces to become a threesome. No longer only a turntablist, he was now a personal DJ, joining the ranks of Jam Master J, Jazzy Jeff, and other Hip hop greats. In 2001, Demus accomplished his goal of purchasing an MPC drum machine. He grew his beat making skills with a passion and from that point on, 2EKWHIP no longer needed to rap over other artists beats. More importantly, his musical production company, SuperVillain Beats broke out all the way live. After becoming household names, the group began to heed destinys call from outside the Islands and the threesome packed up to head to the US of A. After landing in Atlanta, Georgia and paying a brand new set of dues all over again, Benny-D. overcame the odds of being an outsider and put his musical talents on blast with such force, he was sought out by Universals groundbreaking R&B artist Akon of Locked Up fame. Akon and the label execs were so impressed with his production skills, they made a mad hustle at the last minute to include the Demus produced "Dont Let Up" (Trk 11) on Akons multi-platinum CD, Trouble. Benny-D. agreed to travel on down time from 2EKWHIP as the tour DJ for Akons international stint, a gig that has had him riding the high wave of success for the past three years.Benny-Demus has gone on to become world renown as a highly entertaining DJ known for mesmerizing an audience with his mastery of the mix and engaging stage show. You may have caught him in one of numerous TV appearances including 106 & Park; Regis & Kelly; Jimmy Kimmel Live; Craig Kilborn; Nokia Unwired: Hard Rock Live; MTV Europe Awards or the Source Awards. He appeared on stages for the BET Awards, MTV Discover & Download; and the career-affirming Soul Train. No stranger to foreign lands, he has performed in countries such as Africa (Senagal, Gabon, Ghana, Jo'Burg, Nigeria, Durban, CapeTown), Germany, London, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, New Zealand, Australia, Antigua, Barbados, Paris and Holland. Definitely a breakout DJ and full on entertainer, Demus has also received coverage in VIBE and Rap Pages. With skills as critical as those of a stealth bomber, Benny-Demus has frequently been called upon for use as a secret weapon by industry insiders. He has worked with labels such as Universal Records, Konvict Muzik, Sony Music and SRC Records. He was called upon for his production expertise to contribute to the score of Midway Games NBA Ballers series. Responsible for the theme music of MBC Networks 2002-03 Black College Football and Basketball Season, he also created their slogan "Play Hard, Play Tough". Next on his menu is to drop a new album from his super group "Rock City" (formerly 2EKWHIP) who has the smash single called "Bang It" blazing the clubs and radio all over the world and to ensure just exposure for his homeland and the awesome talents it holds. Dont worry if you did not catch him at the Tweeter Center in Boston, Club Speed in NYC, the Michigan Music Festival, or at the Car Shows for Funkmaster Flex or Wyclef Jean, he'll be receiving rotations at a station or inciting frenzies at a venue near you, all in the very near future. Just be careful, Benny-Demus is on fire, and nothing but success can satiate it. Always remember he's not just a DJ...he's an ENTERTAINER!!!
