TWAUN PLEDGER
“INTERPRETING LIFE THROUGH WORDSâ€
It’s past 3:30 in the morning and a bright light can still be seen clearly beneath the closed studio door. On the inside, the melodic beat pounds through the speakers as the track loops back for a second verse. Weaving it’s way through the air and into the minds of those who patiently wait for it’s coming, is the voice of a man who has a lot to say and more to give.
Blessed with the ability to share his thoughts through words, 23-year-old Twaun Pledger has always felt a responsibility to speak for those who don’t have a voice. Raised by his mother in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was taught to “keep your head up and mind tight,†this young visionary paid attention to and absorbed all of his surroundings. Noticing the poverty that met him at his front door to the lives and struggles that paved the streets, Twaun’s mother felt compelled to better her son’s opportunities by sending him to live with his father in Atlanta, Georgia. At the time Twaun’s father, T.C. Carter, had established Raw Deal Records as a way to help independent artist develop their craft. Meeting him with tough love and valuable life lessons, Twaun’s father played a pivotal role in the growth of his son’s progression from child to man. It wasn’t long before Twaun decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a part of Raw Deal Records.
What started off as a form of poetry with a mix of spoken-word has progressed into a way to effectively discuss the problems of today and the experiences of tomorrow. Lead by his need to share himself and his experiences with the world, this lyricist has been careful to fully represent his true self in his music.
“When someone hears one of my song’s their getting a piece of my inner self that is a reflection of me,†claims Twaun Pledger when asked about his music. “I give of myself to reach those who have the same experiences or can at least relate to what I’ve gone through.â€
Inspired by his drive to be heard and his dedication to reaching the masses, Twaun Pledger has learned how to creatively join his love for spoken word and his birth right of music. With the recent establishing of Fourth Quarter Grind Ent and the success of his current single, Birmingham Walk, which has sparked a new dance and caused fans from his hometown to post videos on popular sites such as You Tube, Twaun Pledger has surely elevated to the next level. Determined to “strike while the iron is hot†and pursue his dream of becoming a household name, Twaun sees no reason for slowing down.Look forward to the upcoming album release of “Water†coming in 2007
