// William Gibson / Orson Scott Card / Wilbur Smith / Larry Niven / Michael Crichton / Jeffrey Archer / Wilbur Smith / Chuck Palahniuk / Life of Pi / The Five People You Meet in Heaven / The Tao of Pooh // I enjoy sci-fi a great deal. But as for this modern new techno-thriller genre: Michael Crighton seems to do his research diligently, and as an actual MD, it's not too hard to find his stories quite plausible and his tale-telling credible. But, as a technologist myself, reading some authors' techno-thrillers is unbearable. Not to mention any names (DAN BROWN).
I think I put Wilbur Smith twice. I don't care. He writes brilliant historical fiction. He develops amazingly rich characters and clearly tells their tales spanning years, generations, and continents, seamlessly and seemingly effortlessly; interlacing them accurately with real historical events, all the while unfolding the storyline with intelligent situational irony (chances are that those are someone else's words that i read in a review, but i'm really not certain, and thats what i would have said if you had asked me anyway).
