About Me

ETERNIA @ NU 107 soundclips IN THE RAW with the legendary Francis Brew click here __http://eternia2004.multiply.com/music/item/21 ____________________________________________________________ Eternia's music is all about unpredictability, each arrangements is set up not be guessed by a cunning musical mind. A collage of the different sound colors, texture, sound walls, tempo, and melody. The beauty of metal music at its most unlikely form. It makes you succumb to the vulnerability of life at its inevitable scene, death.___________________________________________________Oth ers have classified our music mainly as Progressive Death. Some also described it as Ethereal Doom, Stoner Rock and Melodic Black Metal. But we simply define it as Good Music. Simply because we combine all elements of various genres then incorporate it in our sound, such as the complex arrangements, jazz and classical fusion rooted sound of progressive rock, the slow yet heavy Doom, the psychedelic aura of Stoner rock, the sadness of Goth, the dark themes of Black Metal, and the brutality, ruthlessness of Death Metal....................This is how we started............It was 2001, when the nu metal scene was at its peak. A band called De_dust, tried to be different from the rest by exploring their artistic limitations and going beyond the norms. The result of which was a stunning amalgam of musical masterpieces, shattering the perceptions of the metal genre. Their musical repertoire ranged from Black Metal, Thrash, Gothic Rock, Death Metal, Tribal, Power Metal and Progressive. It was composed of me on vocals, JP Gregorio and Michael Licud on Guitars, Leo Jose Pila on keyboards, Paulo Espiritu on drums, and Eman Estalilla on bass. Their songsCatacomb and Rain received good reviews from a rock station critic. After a gig at Ardz, in 2003, because of conflicts in musical theories, the band broke up. Maybe, because of our diversity we had not carved the main thing that we had aimed for, our identity. Michael became the bassist for Faster than Satan, JP became the drummer for Sea of Rains and guitarist for 9th Circle Prophecy; Leo also played keyboards for Sea of Rains, later joining JP on NCP. And I became busy with work. I, at this point in time, swore not to be in a band again.I was wrong.........I came across some old cds. and listened to Katatonia and fell in love with their music. I was amazed at how Jonas Renske combines his clean melodic tone with his guttural growls. It was the albums " The Last Fair Deal Gone Down", " Brave Murder Day" that got me excited to be in a band again. Later on, listening to Katatonia, made me wander across their swedish friends, OPETH. Their music made me even more captivated. Great musicians! Their albums, "Blackwater Park," "Damnation" and "Deliverance" gave me sleepless nights, and I knew that there will come a time when I could come up with the right pieces.......On the summer of 2004, I met Jeffrey Licop, who told me that he can play a little bit of guitar. He showed me some riffs from Katatonia's "Endtime" and "Disposession" and I was really impressed! This guy belongs to a band!! It made me excited that I immediately called up my former bandmates JP who was also my cousin, Leo, Michael and Eman, and we decided to form a band. Michael became the catalyst of our creativity. Displaying tremendous technical proficiency he created our first compositions. But it wasnt until, Joel Atienza came, a skilled bassist for 9th Circle Prophecy and Scourge, that the band became complete. He replaced Eman who left due to musical differences. Eternia appeared at various gigs at Mayrics, stirred a rippling magnitude amongst listeners who had had never heard this music before.Combining melody in unusual arrangements, dizzying complexity with brutal riffs, there was never a band similar to them............Chapter One- Infamy in the Winter Solstice....................After playing in at the most prestigious metal events,It came to my attention that something is peculiarly missing. A lot of great bands that we have played with, sure have gotten respect from musicians across these universe of genres, but most of them never had some album that they can call their own. So, Jeff and I decided to record an album. Unfortunately, due to some constraints we were only able to record 5 songs. So, we may as well call it an EP. We decided to have it associated with the symbolism that we often used in our songs "Winter". I used it often to epitomize death, sadness, indifference, etc. Thus, the name "infamy in the winter solstice".Threnody of Twilight- Sitting in front of a building window at work, I gazed at the moon. Where the moonbeams bridges me to this fascinating beauty. Cloaking the night's vulnerability, I became a prisoner of this enchantment. In a vacuum like memory landscape, it reminded me of someone. I immediately grabbed a pen, and wrote the lyrics to come with the riffs created by Michael. I wanted it to be personal, as an epic to the most tragic tryst that happens every midnight, that of the Sun and the Moon. the cursed lovers of entwined fate The album came also marked the departure of Joel, who has been a good friend to us. JP told me about his neighbor who also plays bass with silk like fluidity. His name is Francis Eleuterio. His bass playing changed the sonic sound wall that Eternia has been known for. His various styles complimented the versatile skills of JP, and the musical virtousity of Leo. After being invited to various musical events, I received a text message from Denver Niepes, then, we had agreed that the band will be under the management of Abstract Media and Entertainment. This gave us a chance to play at the country's biggest metal event, "Rock Fusion". Events were held at Batangas, Rizal, etc. This gave us the experience to play in front of a thousand people, screaming their lungs out.....................................Chapter Two-Eternia's approach to songwriting now resembles more of the progressive genre. This is due to the integration of Symphony X to our music. Soon, we will be hitting the studios, playing, eating, breathing music. Our perspective remains unified, that is to inject the mainstream consciousness with our music while keeping pace with the topmost echelons of technical metal bands.

Sounds Like: We sound like nobody you have ever heard. But for the purpose of putting it into words, this is a futile effort to capture the essence of Eternia's music. the sound that we create, we basically incorporate principles of the Progressive genre, elements of Death, some arrangements resembling black metal roots, the depressing aura of Doom, and a psychedelic force field that leaves listeners in a deep vacuum like trance. .
