WHAT DRIVES YOU?
Within each man is the potential to move the world. But what is it that moves you? For most people, the source of this motive power is never explicitly stated or defined, it remains ambiguous; implicitly felt, and seen vibrantly in dreams, with concretizations of that feeling glimpsed on rare occasion in reality. As we grow, these glimpses become memories; either faded and tragic, or glorious and triumphant.
Concentrate has many memories, most of which are kept stored away, as distant from his conscious attention as his person is, from the place of his birth, on the West side of Chicago. But there are a few memories, the glorious, triumphant memories, which he carries on a constant basis, driving him, seeing him through the task of each new day. Concentrate caught his first glimpse of what would drive him to move the world upon hearing Rappers Delight, by the Sugar hill Gang, for the first time, while still a child. He heard a group of men utilizing a boundless creativity, enjoying life on a seemingly limitless scale; he heard a defiant call against the norm of mendacity. For the first time, Concentrate knew what life could be. Most importantly, he knew that it was possible. From that moment on, Concentrate knew what his life would become, he had found his motive power, and he knew that it would take years of hard work and dedication to earn his right to that kind of life.
Things were not easy for Concentrate, however. Throughout the years of his childhood, he lived with dyslexia. The silent agony of struggling to understand what he was being taught in school was compounded by the social ostracism he encountered, as a result of his particular challenge. Consequently, Concentrate became involved with many different crews, trying to find his niche, until he finally realized: his niche did not exist; if he wanted to succeed, to achieve the life he had glimpsed as a child, he must carve his own niche.
As a result of the social ills he incurred from his bout with dyslexia, Concentrate realized that his work is what would get him what he wanted. He realized that what he creates is all that matters, and he resolved to master all the aspects of the art-form he loves; break-dancing, graffiti, Turntablism, rapping. Once he accomplished this personal mastery, it would not matter what he could not do; only what he could.
Concentrate is now a man. His time has come. He has mastered the skills, as he set out to do so many years ago. He has now earned the right to the life he glimpsed as a young child, and he has become the responsible individual capable of sharing that life with others; in hopes that they will catch the same glimpse that he did, so long ago.
The inspired shall inspire. Take that inspiration and focus.
