STOP THE DARFUR GENOCIDE NOW!
Darfur is a province in Sudan, it is the Western part of the country with neighboring countries; Chad, and Central African Republic. Darfur is divided into Northern Darfur, Western Darfur and Southern Darfur. Just as a brief history of Sudan: Sudan has been divided by religion with 70% Muslim, 25% animist, and 5% Christian. There are African and Arab Sudanese. Fighting has been constantly occuring between the South and the North. Political leaders have come and gone between the civil war periods of: 1956-1972 and 1983-2005. The conflict in Darfur occured when the Sudan Liberation Army/Movement (SLA) and Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) rebels began to fight the government in February of 2003. Rebels were made up of the African tribes; Fur, Zaghawa, and the Massaleit. The rebels succeeded against the government, so the government responded by aiding the Arab militia (the Janjaweed) to overthrow the African tribes. The ending result has become GENOCIDE.

My Interests

The present situation in Darfur has turned into genocide. Khartoum, the leader of Sudan, has made it very difficult for humanitarian action. Khartoum has set up concentration camps into which many African tribes have been forced into. There continues to be massive murders and acts of violence throughouot the region of Darfur. Disease and rape have become very common in daily life. The government of Darfur has chosen to turn a shoulder and ignore the state of emergency occuring in Darfur.

I'd like to meet:

We are a group of students working on a Project to present a social problem to society and try and come up with support and some kind of solution.
