The Winter Kings, fronted by Austin Kehoe and Max Delderfield, create lyrically interesting alternative music with an intelligent edge. Their music interweaves melody and meaning, an exploration of tension and resolution, with a live set which successfully runs the gamut from acoustic introspection to alternative rock. Based in Cambridge, England, The Winter Kings play actively on the local scene and have developed a large fan base in Cambridge and London and also online.
The Winter Kings' style is a mix of genres in the vein of Nick Cave, Joy Division and The Editors. Already impressing promoters across Cambridgeshire, they also plan to collaborate with the the No More Landmines Trust, which will include a national release of their song 'Landmines', whereby the single will be sold for £1, with all proceeds used to help the work of The No More Landmines Trust.
The band's live set has drawn alot of media attention after incendiary performances at The Secret Garden Party Festival and in venues in London, Cambridge, Peterborough and Dublin. A UK tour to promote their forthcoming album ' The Gallows on the Shore' is set for Summer 2008.
The band have been described as, "an accessible, more electric Nick Cave" by Agenda Magazine. They recently featured on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire's The Audio Files and their track 'Fall from Grace' appeared on the cover mount cd of January 2007's issue of Playmusic Magazine.
The band were recently announced winners of the Cambridge Band Competition 2008 and played to an enthusiastic crowd of 850 at The Cambridge Corn Exchange.
Following on the success of their first two eps, the band are currently working on their first Album, 'The Gallows on the Shore' set for release in July 2008.

'Dreamy soundscapes and guitars ranging from thick and blossoming to delay drenched and luxurious, headed up by Austin's vital vocal.'
- PLAYMUSIC PICKUP Magazine, August 2007
'Front-man Austin Kehoe is a natural leader, the band are tight, controlled and enjoy playing the imaginative musical arrangements they've created....Big lavish musicality and gothic murmurings are hinted at, as well as more delicate and subtle moments.'
- THE HUNTS POST, June 2007
'Passionate, emotive, exhiliarating.'
- HOPE STREET MUSIC
'Excellent. Love the way they could just change the pace they played hard rock rock then gentle melody seemlessly. A joy to listen to.'
- UNITY
'The band combine brooding intensity with strong lyricism… A highly original outfit.'
- THE PETERBOROUGH EVENING TELEGRAPH, Jan 2008
‘Music that moves seamlessly from sparse emotion to waves of solid noise within the same song. The word ‘epic’ was invented for this band. The style is difficult to pin down, so fresh and original does it appear. The performance of vocalist Austin Kehoe, with overtones of Bono and Tim Booth, is nothing short of stunning.’
- ART AND SOUL MAGAZINE, Feb 2008
'The band combine brooding intensity with strong lyricism… A highly original outfit.'
- THE PETERBOROUGH EVENING TELEGRAPH, Jan 2008
'An earthquake of a set. Their polished sound is one of the most commercially viable in the city and nestles somewhere between the introspection of Bright Eyes and the cold steel grandeur of Editors.'
- CAMBRIDGE EVENING NEWS, April 2008
'...if ever there's a band that can steal the show it's The Winter Kings. I admit to catching this band live a lot recently, and yet every time I see them they surpass themselves. On paper it's simple; rock and roll played with boundless energy, depth and passion, performed by an exceptional cast of musicians and a front man who is so comfortable with his audience it's difficult to believe he hasn't been doing this all his life. The expectation in the rammed audience was greatly rewarded by a sterling set from the most complete band in Cambridge at the moment. I've not been this excited about a local band for years; if The Winter Kings don't succeed in the music industry it will be an incredible injustice.'
