LIVE REVIEW FROM 'The Stix' STREET PRESS MAGAZINE - Tris Elies, Katoomba, 25th October 2007:"I think I am having one of those "I love local music weeks". Either that or there is just a lot of really talented people living out in the sticks. I reviewed 2 great local CD's and then last night I went to see Sydney band Wormholes Exist who were supported by local band Olivine. Olivine are from the lower mountains, fresh out of school and absolutely oozing with potential. A three piece that play melodic rock kind of akin to Cog but with a bit of Lior thrown in, they really are too good to be as young as they are. They are all very accomplished at their instrument, play with 110% commitment all the time and have a real emotion. There in between songs vibe lets them down a little bit, but they are still finding their feet with being on stage. Years of playing together to packed venues will fix that right up. And surely that is what they must have before them. Unfortunately this gig was pretty much empty, but that didn't seem to bother them too much, they just had fun with it but never let their playing slip. Lead singer Linden has one of the most amazing live voices I have heard for ages. It is strong and beautiful and he has an amazing range and vocal control. They covered a Jeff Buckley song and it was almost better than the original, Linden giving it more oomph, but still having the honeyed choirboy tones. Rob and Linden swap between guitar and bass, both playing each instrument excellently all the time backed up by drummer Grant who is solid and fluid all at the same time. This definitely is one up and coming band to watch. A bit of fine tuning and nothing should stop these guys.I really though it was Olivine's night. OK, so they are not as polished [as headliner's Wormholes Exist], but if new music is meant to excite you then they have got it in spades." - Robyn Jarman
LIVE REVIEW FROM 'The Stix' STREET PRESS MAGAZINE - Hotel Gearin, Katoomba, 14th July 2007:
"First up on the support bill were Olivine, a bunch of young boys still at or just out of High School, a little power-trio comprising one of the most talented, technically proficient and invigorating musicians I've heard in a long time and with a sense of healthy dose of humour and humility. Olivine are Linden Furnell - vocals, guitars (and sometimes bass!), Rob Badman - 5 string Bass, Vocals (and sometimes guitar!) and Grant Konemann on the drums, Linden and Rob swap instruments throughout their set and take turns at the vocal duties, multi-skilling their tunes as they go along. Their sound ranges from heavy prog-rock riffing to smooth Jazz chorded 80's era- chorus-pedal guitar textured ballads with sudden time changes and beautifully arranged vocal harmonies. I liked them so much I nearly went to the stall to buy their CD and T-shirt, but I already had spent the last 'Piaster' I could borrow after buying a drink to some red-headed lady dressed all in black who said she "knew" me from a 'past life'. Keep your ears open for the trio with the big "O" - Olivine and like Molly Meldrum used to say: 'Watch out for them!' " - Albert Gestal
EP REVIEW FROM 'The Stix' STREET PRESS MAGAZINE:
"Olivine have crafted an excellent piece of work with their self-titled debut EP. Some moments brought to mind the tracks from George's 'Polyserena' when Tyrone sings instead of Katie. There are also RATM-like heavy grooves and a cool-sounding flute accompaniment on 'Yazz'. If that track was an attempt to emulate the work of the late-eighties one-hit-wonder pop-artist of the same name then the boys failed miserably – and that's a very good thing. Olivine have clearly put a lot of work into developing a coherent sound that they can call their own. I look forward to tracking their progress after Year 12. Go to the Triple J Unearthed website to vote for them." - Roger Mexico
