Life must be lived forward but can only be understood backwards.

About Me

I'm fit; I'm emotionally sound. Except of course when I'm coming unglued ;). I'm never belligerent or violent. Well, I would be if someone ever came between my daughter and I. and me? me and my daughter? Okay, sometimes I struggle with language, but I love to write. Type actually, who could read my handwriting? I Love music if it's fun; I hate depressing and/or politically motivated music. I love movies. Yes, I like romance and romantic comedies -- chick flicks. I like high-tech action/adventure stuff too -- guy flicks. I like uplifting, optimistic, and inspirational forces in my life; I despise the opposites of these.

2008.06.27 - Road Construction Day ?whatever?
Yeah, I didn't really keep up with this too well, did I? Well, I was busy, lol. Anyway, I think we're done! It's a pretty new road, and it's only a week late. They layed it down in two layers over two days. When they were laying the final layer, it started raining! I think it doesn't matter. Asphalt is waterproof even when still fresh and hot. Made for some cool clouds of steam, though! And now it's just pretty and smooth! Couple of new pics. The full set of pics will likely appear somewhere else like on my other blog when I get back to it.

2008.05.08 - An Awesome Evening To Go Flying
One of my best friends EVER and certainly my longest standing friend since 9th grade, Jim, flew into Morey Field here in Middleton this evening and we went up for a ride. Jim has had his pilots license for quite a while and I had an opportunity to take a ride with him back in 1994. This evening was different.

I went out to the airport at 5:45pm and didn't have long to wait. A plane coming in from the ENE was just who I thought it was. He turned to fly parallel to the runway, then turned on base leg, then final, and before I knew it, he was taxing to the bench outside the pilot's lounge where I was waiting. He hopped out and we chatted about where we'd go fly.

Basically, we decided to take off from Morey, and take a southerly course around the south of Madison and see if the air traffic controllers would let us do a practice ILS approach to the Madison airport. Then we'd head west and play out there before returning to Morey.

So off we went. We pretty much flew right over my house immediately after takeoff. I got a pic looking down my street, but not including my house since we were pretty much right over it! As we attained about 2000ft, Jim radioed Madison and requested the practice approach. Madison's airport is pretty good sized with lots of commercial, private, and Air National Guard traffic. Things were quiet this evening though, and the controller were very accommodating and friendly. We were directed to 3000ft and vectored into Runway 36 - the main runway. We just flew a low approach down to a few hundred feet, then set full power and climbed out to 2500 turning west bound headed back over toward and out beyond Middleton.

For me that's when the fun started. Jim said, "Okay, feet on the petals, take the yoke, the airplane's yours." He let me fly well out past Middleton, and we did lots of turns. I fly a simulator right here on my computer, but nothing compares to doing it for real! Because of the hours I've spent on the sim, I pretty much knew what I needed to do, and found it quite a challenge to keep everything coordinated - bank angle, turn coordination, altitude. The one thing the simulator can't give you is the feel of the aircraft. Nothing compares to that! The plane felt so totally comfortable. It was as effortless as driving a car, but it was cruising through the air, which adds an entirely new dimension to the sensation of being in motion. And of course there are a few more things to keep track of. God it's hard to explain. All I know is that it was totally AWESOME. I highly recommend it - go take an introductory flight!

So here's a few teaser pics. All the pics can be found HERE .

Current Favorites From Girls Rock Radio:
Here's my current Favorite Girls Rock Radio additions (in no particular order):
1. Ballerinas - My new FAVORITE band!!
2. Gabby Villanueva - Donde Iran
3. Salme Dahlstrom - Superstar Car Crash

Choosing music for GRR is one of the most awesome things I get to do. Just thought I'd share a little glimpse into that process. For me, it starts with the music itself. Often a song gets on the air simply because the music is just right and the production is sweet. But it's also the vocal blend into the music itself. The harmony has to really feel right to me. Lastly, the lyrics may have something to do with the selection. As long as it's not politically or socially motivated, I'm good with it and that is just something that I can figure out without really getting hardly any meaning out of the lyrics - yet. And by the way, I love all music, but the format for GRR does not permit me to add just everything. Often, I find that the lyrics catch up to me later even after the song is already on the air. It can be uncanny, though, how I'll listen to a new addition to the play list and realize just how the lyrics *do* speak to me. Other times, the lyrics, although awesome, just don't really apply to my situation. Seems most of my current favorites do strike a chord (lol) with me.

Internet Radio has both expanded my exposure to great new music and re-awakened my love for music. I hate corporate terrestrial radio. It sickens me how unimaginative and bland the playlists are. Often, an artist's worst track is the one chosen to represent them on the air waves. Internet radio, by contrast, seeks many of the deeper, more meaningful cuts, highlights under-exposed artists, or brings back the great music that only grazed the charts briefly, but were brilliant just the same and usually more deserving than the crap that is continually trolled on the "classic" stations. How much can you take all those stylus-worn tracks from Led Zeplin, Def Leppard, ZZTop, etc. Hey they're good bands, but come on...

Movies:

Current Fav:
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Brilliantly funny! Most laughs I've had at the movies in a while. Hawaii is a really awesome backdrop for this get-away flick, too. Most surprising to me, though, is that I would find myself opposing a long standing crush, Kristen Bell (Sarah Marshall,) but Mila Kunis' character was just way to compelling. Mila has such a soft beauty with just a hint of the exotic, and this made her a perfect fit for the sassy, and somewhat unpredictable Rachel Jansen. Aside from seeing way too much (lol!) of Jason Segel (Peter Bretter,) I felt he was well cast in the leading male role. He kind of gives me a rather stout Sylvester Stallone vibe which seemed weird, but didn't kill anything for me.

Some All-Time Favorites:
Coyote Ugly
High Fidelity
Stranger Than Fiction
She's All That
Little Black Book
Angel Eyes
Pleasantville

Television:

..Not sure if this is "must see" order, or if it's even in the right ranking order. Still, these are the shows I look forward to seeing. Luckily, the TiVo lets me watch on my schedule, not the network's.
1. Grey's Anatomy
2. Battlestar Galactica (waiting on the new season...)
3. Dirty Sexy Money
4. Lost - OMG! Coolest season ever! (am I *your* constant?)
5. Desperate Housewives
6. Flash Gordon
7. South of Nowhere
8. Chuck (okay, this one's kind of embarrassing, lol)
9. Bionic Woman
10. Life
11. Las Vegas
12. Gossip Girl
13. Heroes

Okay, looking at this list, I think I'm watching way too much television. :/

Books:

The Rich Dad Poor Dad series. The Millionaire Real Estate Investor. How to Win Friends and Influence People. Think and Grow Rich. I think the last fiction hI read was Contact by Carl Sagan. I started to read Sphere on a plane over the Atlantic on the way to Germany, but didn't get too far into it - plus I realized I'd seen the movie, lol. Wish I had more time for recreational reading...

Heroes:

Jim Rohn ( Jim Rohn ) Robert Kiyosaki ( Rich Dad Poor Dad ) Jeff Olson ( The Slight Edge ) The guy who, when I was 18 and a few months away from entering the Air Force, told my mom, "You leave him alone! He's climbing out of his skin right about now!" The ensuing freedom made for a pretty amazing summer before the world got all in my face...
