About Me

Discovering music at an early age DR909 (aka Danny Russell) was raised on a diet of Northern Soul, Disco, Funk and early House music. Listening to records by The Temptations, Charles Wright, Loleatta Holloway, Marleana Shaw, Michael Jackson, and The Commodores that were passed down to him by his Mum.It wasn't until 1997, when he got his first set of turntables that it was time for electronic music to take over, expressing himself by throwing parties as an early teenager in the Isle of Man.In 2000 DR909 Began working for Island based record store, 'Switched On.' It was in this setting that he began discovering sub genres of electronic music, becoming a regular fixture at many local underground nights and getting hands on in the studio.By 2003 DR909 had embarked on a 5 day tour DJing in New York before moving to his family home of Manchester and based himself in the inner city area of Hulme. An area famed for the residence of many of the cities artists and musicians. It was here that he started his The Freshest Kids and Profile Nights, as well as becoming a regular fixture on the Underground Soundsystem show on radio ibreaks (www.ibreaks.co.uk).Fast forward to 2007 and DR909 has already had a hectic year, spending most of his time at 10,000 feet to keep up with his bimonthly residency with Aperitivo (Isle of Man). As well as working towards a degree in Sound Engineering and Design at SSR. (Which has seen him producing a variety of bands, holding the Pro Tools 101 Engineering qualification) and eventually experimenting as a House/Techno/Electro producer, with his first Release out 10th September on Wide records (Smashback - Shoddy Track (DR909 Remix)). The Bass Phamacy E.P. containing the track was voted 4/5 in the Experimental section of Mixmag and will be availiable for purchase through the itunes storeWhen it comes to DJing DR909 basically plays a variety of House, Electro, and Techno (just good music really) You can catch him playing Monthly in Manchester at his C.A.K.E residency, (under the name Dr. Battenburg) which has already seen him play to the masses at a special end of the year student party, The Pangaea @ The Academe. And also warming up for James Lavelle in the main room of Sankeys, MCREmail: [email protected]
