Influences: Not You
Sounds Like: To be sure, The Woolly Bandits have roots in sixties garage rock, but somewhere along the way they bring a unique twist to the table, giving their tunes a distinctive touch that you really can't put a copyright date on. Cool music is cool music, no matter what year it was recorded.Splashed with saucy vocals, whipping keyboards, stabbing chords and crashing drumbeats, the band's new album, Say Hello to My Little Friend, is truly a classic of its kind.Governed by ragged melodies and restless energy, "Don't Want You Around," "What Are You All About?" and "Let Me Know" spit and swagger with arrogance and aggressiveness. Fun and frisky, "Bomp Shu Bomp" checks in as a hot dance number with its shuffling rhythms and infectious refrain. A take of Syd Barrett's "Octopus" bristles with chugging riffs, that strange as it may seem, makes me think of Black Sabbath.Say Hello to My Little Friend also features a manic cover of "Pushin' Too Hard," which isn't exactly surprising, since The Woolly Bandits do sound an awful lot like The Seeds at times. Scruffy, yet not sloppy, straight ahead garage rock honestly doesn't get much better than this.]
