ABOUT THE GROOVE REBELS
“All roads lead to Rome” an old saying says, even though some people seem to find the motorway a lot easier, others are already born in the first class compartment of an airplane and others just wander off from their felt middle of nowhere, all out to achieve their personal Rome.
In 2005 it seemed as if the Groove Rebels had finally found their way, which did not lead them to Rome in the first way, but straight into the record boxes of many high class DJs. The EP “Untight” on Great Stuff was an international club hit and renowned labels manifasted their interest in collaborating with the congenial DJs from Mainz, Germany. Many releases followed. But instead of remaining static the both realised that they had emerged themselves into different musical directions. Amir as well as SKAI started to concentrate on those musical components which really conveyed the meaning of their name: Groove, Rhythm and Soul. To achieve their goals, they did not only work together but set up own solo-projects:
As a result Amir focused on producing his own musical visions of “Rhythm N Grooves”. His baby, the “Bodymusic” series was born and has been a sensational success so far: Bodymusic Three and Four both charted at least in the Top3 of the official German Club Charts, Bodymusic Three even reached the pole position. The scene praised his tunes to the max, receiving positive feedback from superstars such as Josh Wink, Karotte, Sven Väth, Booka Shade, Tom Novy, Jesse Rose and Martin Landsky, who all played at least one of Amir’s releases. In June his “Bodymusic Series” will be completed with the grand final “Bodymusic Six”, which is already loved by Robert Owens, DJ T., Monika Kruse and Laurent Garnier and features none other than Dance Music legend Eric D. Clark. Further productions and remixes are planned for labels such as Great Stuff and Moonbootique. Additionally Amir is responsible for the label BigCityBeats Techno and runs his own promotion agency for labels such as AFU Limited, AFU Laboratory and Suchtreflex.
SKAI has used his time focusing on his work as a booker and brand designer in the entertainment sector, now responsible for nearly every Saturday at Sven Väth’s Cocoon Club and of course the Groove Rebels origin, the 50Grad in Mainz near Frankfurt.
The both kept in contact though; on the contrary, besides their regular gigs Amir and Skai run the label Envy My Music Records, which has sold thousands of records with only two releases. Furthermore, the first two singles “Eternity” and “Marathon” were hailed with international praise from John Acquaviva, Stephan Bodzin, Mark Knight, Umek, Moonbootica, Mason, Steve Lawler and Ivan Smagghe (Blackstrobe).
The Rebels used their so called “time out” and personal experiments to find their new musical identification: Rhythm N Grooves in a “techhousy” context take the Rebels back to their roots, which is certainly well expressed with a new release on Envy My Music Records, the Remixes for Butch on Great Stuff and the Track Supernova on Tractor Records. They came back where they first started from - on the motorway, but this time driving in the right direction and full speed on the left lane!
