Meet Miss Hana - one of our new rescue gals. This little old gal was dumped at a kill shelter in Alabama-
Hana has the following medical issues:
Heart worm Positive- requires expensive treatment
Left eye has ulcer - requires 2 eye ointments
Right eye infected - requires 1 eye ointment
Skin & ear bacterial infection - requires oral meds & ear drops
She is a sever case of neglect and cruelty! WHY? this baby was dumped outside during the middle of the nigh on 6/11/07, along with medications, she received on 6/3/07- for her eyes, ears and skin- HOWEVER, it was NEVER opened or USED! She was allowed to suffer for 7 days, even after her owners had medications to help her!!! CRUEL!
Remember Rescue is NOT funded by city or state government... we run on Dontations alone!

WHO WE ARE -
Southern Shih Tzu Rescue, Inc (SSTR) is a 501(c)3 NON PROFIT charity. We are not a shelter; but an ALL volunteer, small rescue organization, dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of Shih Tzu, as well as other toy breeds.
In most shelters, if a dog is sick (heartworms, eye injury) or shows any sign of aggression (even FEAR) the shelter can NOT adopt the dog out... it will DIE. Rescue steps in and takes these babies. We give them the medical treatment they need and time to adjust before we rehome them..... Saving one LIFE at a time.
Every year, for a variety of reasons, Shih Tzu (and other Toy Breeds) in this country find themselves in need of new homes. Sometimes they are lost, abandoned or dumped at shelters. Sometimes owners must give up their dogs for various reason. And, sometimes they are rescued from commercial breeding facilities, commonly referred to as "puppy mills".
SSTR takes in any shih tzu regardless of age, health and/or temperament, when funding allows. Unfortunately, we are currently limited on funds and foster homes. Due to these limitations, we are forced to limit the number of babies we help.
Before finding new homes, ALL babies are placed in foster care for evaluation and vet-work, which includes: spay/neuter, vaccinations and treatment of all other medical issues, based on vet recommendation (heartworm treatment, dental work, hip surgery, eye surgery, liver shunt surgery, etc...)

My Interests

The OLD and FOREVER OURS... Here's a few of the babies that have become OURS, due to health conditions and ongoing major medical care. We feel it would be best to not move them, unless we find the "perfect" home willing to take on their medical needs.....

THESE BABIES are at RAINBOW BRIDGE- we lost these babies to medical conditions, basically because we got to them too late and they were so neglected at their previous homes (not treated for their condition)
