David Stephens and Banjolicious

A tobacco stain on the face of bluegrass music

About Me

David Stephens' love affair with the banjo started while he was an undergraduate at Troy State University. During a trip home for the weekend, he heard a scrawny, scraggly-haired banjo picker/songwriter from New Orleans, named Mike West, tearing bluegrass and folk music a new asshole. So, with one banjo lesson from West, David Stephens began making life in the dorms a living hell while he practiced his banjo rolls. West later recorded and produced three solo albums: "Played By the Rules," "Family Album," and "Far Cry." In November of 2006, Stephens packed up his banjo (which Delta Airlines managed to smash up despite the protection of a fiberglass case) and relocated to the big city of New York. We'll see if the Big Apple is ready for some down home pickin' and singin'.
