Third Place winner of the A Prarie Home Companion's Talent int Town Under Two Thousand Contest, April 2000, the Camptown Ladies took home the Ray Marklund Award, which was a Tool Box (got stolen at the Airport) and $350. Plus a trip to NYC where they played in Manhattan's Town Hall, in front of 1,800 people and on live national Public Radio. Though, this was their only 15 minute of fame, they continued to play on the streets and perform in local bars and weddings. Melissa Carper and Gina Gallina met in Arkansas 1997. They had always played music together, but when they moved to New Orleans in 98, they began to play on the Royal St. in the French Quarter regularly. Now that the ladies are apart and pursuing other things in life, you might be able to find a good ol' cd of theirs buried in a cd bin at your local thrift store, but you might find more pleasure going out and seeing Melissa play live with Mountain Sprout. You can definitely get Gina real drunk and she'll play some banjer tunes or belt out some out of tune Loretta Lynn song, but other than that, it doesn't mean the Camptown Ladies are never no more. It is just not a "band", it is a way of life.
Thank You very much.
