Composer/Theater-Artist John Moran has generally been considered the protege of composer Philip Glass. In 2003 Glass was quoted as saying, "I am convinced that there is no more important composer working today, than John Moran. His works have been so advanced as to be considered revolutionary." His impossible to describe works of high-precision, music-dance-theater have featured performers such as Uma Thurman, Iggy Pop, Allen Ginsberg and many others in their leading roles. He recently served 2 years as artist-in-residence for the City of Paris, and now resides again in Brooklyn, New York.
Saori is a dancer and performer from Tokyo. Since arriving to New York City seven years ago, she has established herself as a performer of true precision and ability. She's worked with numerous dance and acting companies in New York, and has toured internationally with Moran for the past 3 years.
Their new work, 'Saori's Birthday Party!' will see it's world premiere this October '07, at 'PerformanceSpace-122' in New York City - and will feature performers Joseph Keckler and Katherine Brook.
The duo have just returned from Scotland's Edinburgh festival where they presented 27 performances thru August of their older work, 'John Moran..and his neighbor, Saori'.
Moran and Saori are currently seeing their first feature-film in production: 'The Goldberg Variations (Portrait of Saori)', which features the two along with composer Philip Glass (as an actor) and incorporates the cast into a fully animated, CG setting. The film began shooting last April.
The Seattle Times has described their work as, "...obviously and absolutely brilliant.", and the Boston Globe has written, "Moran is a modern day Mozart." Recently TimeOut NY wrote, "With a one hour show, he has reaffirmed his reputation as one of the most important (and underrated) figures in the avantgarde."
