i am an art collector and gardener. my boyfriend in '85 started me on a long and rewarding path of artistic endevors. i became the owner of a hair salon that i morfed into an art gallery. in the two years of the gallery we showed local national and international artists. hiv+ since '83 and getting an AIDS diagnosis thru chemotherapy in '95 i needed transportation to my last few chemo treatments a friend hooked me up with a sad '61 vw. as i had collected art for years when a client suggested that if i purchased the paint his graffitti crew would paint my car. "i collect art i may as well drive it!" this temporary paint job has now lasted 12 years with some new incarnations thru having purchased an alternative front hood. i am active in the local hiv advisory committee. i was named chair this year.

i suppose if i had to chose heros (a much overused term in my mind) i would have to pick ryan white. this young boy was ostericised by his community and kicked out of his school because he had HIV. if you ask me the real sick ones were the small minded people of his town. i wish i had known him but his courage is always inspiring. also keith haring who was a great artist who devoted his HIV positive years to educating the art world of this holocaust that is AIDS
