Having being involved in DJing & Production since 1997, Myrikal first broke into the Hip Hop game in 2003 at the Wellington heat of the ITF World DJ Championships. He has since gone on to win numerous DJ battle titles including 4th place at the 2005 DMC NZ National Final. He brings a unique style to turntablism, a cut-above your average Hip Hop DJ.
In 2005 Dj Myrikal formed "Phenomenal Entertainment" a small, yet significant Hip Hop imprint focused on the independent release of mixtapes, street albums & other exclusive material. The first release from the label was the highly acclaimed Street Album from Wellington Hip Hop collective Chozin Few.
After the underground success of Chozin Few’s debut Dj Myrikal set about putting together his first official mixtape. “Street Credentialz†was released in late 2005 to rave reviews including 4 ½ out of 5 stars in New Zealand’s leading Urban magazine “Back2Basicsâ€.
Having paid his dues in New Zealand Dj Myrikal decided to pack up his turntables & try his hand at cracking a bigger market. Since late 2006 Myrikal has been based in Europe where he has been rocking clubs, doing regular live-to-radio performances & playing support for a number of big name acts.
Myrikal is quickly becoming a heavy player in the mixtape game, releasing 3 hot new tapes in 2007: “Hustle & Scratch†– a mix of heavy Dirty South beats & Turntablist cuts, “Hyphy Style†– an introduction to Bay Area music & “The Myrikal Mix Vol 1†– a sampler of fresh urban music.
In 2008 Myrikal has been holding the resident DJ spot at Dresden’s hottest weekly Hip Hop night as well as presenting “The Black Music News†live on Radio NRG every Friday night. In August he released his fifth official mixtape “Hustle & Scratch Pt 2â€.
