Kira Jones - Who Wants To Live Forever

I have been creating music for as long as I can remember. Creating music has allowed me to keep my sanity during some of the worst times of my life. Thank the Goddess! I am drawn more to particular songs than I am particular artists. I am captivated by the emotion behind the music. Almost anyone can sing a song or play an instrument, but it's the ones that can stop you in your tracks because they are doing more than just singing or playing, they are living through that voice or instrument, and touching you in a way that is truly beautiful. It's the music that makes you want to stand up and scream or the music that makes you want to sit in the darkness alone, turn it up, and drink it all in. The music that gives you no other choice but to feel. This is what I am drawn to, and always have been.
In writing my music, I tend not to think too much with the brain, something else takes over, and it can be gone as soon as it comes. I don't dwell on it, I just write. If I find myself dwelling on lyrics and the feeling is no longer there, than it doesn't get written. There is a certain magic to it all. Music is such a huge part of who I am, when I don't create for a long period of time, I start to feel like a robot just going through life. It is easy for someone who doesn't understand to say " just pick up the guitar and write a song" It is so much more than that! Lucky for me , I met Chazz Avery in 1993, someone who truly understood and felt the same way about it as I did. Someone who brought out a whole different side in me in creating, and the more we worked together, the more we found that we brought different thing out of each other. Those parts of us that lay dormant for so long began to spring to life. The most important thing that you could possibly have in a music partnership is trust. The music partnership brought out more than could be imagined, and the best part of all, an unbreakable friendship!

I truly believe that music has been in me since my slumber in the womb! I have been told by family members that even as a baby, I would lull myself to sleep. It has gotten me through some of the toughest times of my life.

When I was a kid, and I got something in my head, I would write it down on the nearest piece of paper I could find and get my little casio piano out and put music to it. In school, I played the flute, and this is when I found out that no matter how hard I tried, I just could not read music! I could hear something and just play it.

I was in my first band at 17, and this is when I started teaching myself how to play the guitar. I would write lyrics and hear the music in my head and work it out on the guitar until the melody came out right.

I met Chazz Avery in 1993, and was extremely happy to meet someone that had as much interest as I did in wanting to do original music. The rest is history!

Influences: Olivia Newton-John (fell in love with her voice as a child), P.J. Harvey, John Lennon, The Beatles, Dan Bern, Ani DiFranco, Bauhaus, David Bowie, Kate Bush, The Police, Sarah Brightman, Elvis Costello, Martin Sexton, Nina Simone, Besse Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Tom Waites, David Byrne, Mary Black, The Smiths, The Flaming Lips, Marilyn Manson, The Cure, Prince, Bjork, Tangerine Dream, Imogene Heap, Sinead O' connor, Enya, Mika, Portishead, Christy Moore and Luka Bloom(whom my son is named after) and old boyfriends. I am very inspired by Irish/Celtic music. I do not think anyone can tell a story through music like the Irish. I love to listen to Instrumental pieces, the real eerie kind, I get lost in the emotion as the music tells a story.
