I am very nature oriented and love to be outdoors. Lake Ontario is 100 feet from my front yard and there is a huge park behind my neighborhood. I walk the coast and explore the woods often. Movies, books, writing, gardening, listening to music, and hanging out with friends are my favorite things and none are more important than the other. And oh, I should add that I like to build Lego sets - I have closet full of them.
"I prefer to be a dreamer among the humblest, with visions to be realized, than lord amoung those without dreams and desires."
-Kahil Gibran-
I like many different genres of music including classical (with the exception of Wagner and classical opera). On an everyday basis, my favorites include Bob Dylan, Neil Young, the Beatles, Ocean Colour Scene, the Verve, the Rolling Stones, U2, and most recently, Echonorth and Reindeer Section.
Movies are one of my addictions. I don't have cable so I rent a lot of them or borrow them from the library (one of my favorite places to vist). I like all genres old and new, but my favorites are fantasy, science fiction, and horror. "Lord of the Rings" tops my list in fantasy, and "The Matrix" scores high in science fiction. It takes a lot to really scare me and "The Grudge" was the last one to keep me up all night.
I am not a great fan of watching commercial television, so again I rent TV series on DVD and watch them all at once sans commercials. Two series I did watch on television from beginning to end were "The X-Files" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" but the rest on this list I waited for the DVD release. Some of my favorites are "Lost," "Alias," "Six Feet Under," "Dead Like Me," and "Veronica Mars." A friend gave me "Grey's Anatomy" last week as an early birthday present and I watched the whole series in two nights - I highly recommend it.
Books are yet another of my addictions - I read all the time and the library is one of my favorite places along with used book stores; I love the smell of old books. It would be difficult to name a favorite author or genre. Currently I am reading "The King of Tortes" by John Grisham.
My heroes are my parents. My mother is totally blind, and my father was legally blind (meaning he had some, but very little visiion), so I had an unusual childhood by most peoples standards, though I never considered it as such. My parents taught me many lessons through their example, the most important - that there is no obstacle that life that can hand you that cannot be overcome, and there are always those worse off that need your care and support. My mother at age 79 still volunteers in the community. My father passed away a few years ago - I miss him terribly.
