I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm 26, glad I've done what I've done and hope to do all that I plan. Life changed after traveling in Europe and again after AmeriCorps *NCCC (Perry Point 4 eva!). My massive motorcycle road trip across the U.S. is over. 21,000 miles spread out over five months. I'm slowly putting together the perfect Reuben sandwich. I'm going to the university now. My grades have been superb so far. Now I need to find a way to pay for it all. My current plan is to work at the oil refineries and use the money to keep going to school. After that I guess I'll try to keep it as surreal as I have been these past few years, but you know how shit goes... That Beetle said it best; Life is what happens when you're making other plans. I guess then that whatever happens in between I'm mostly cool with. Mostly.* Music is paramount. My Scandinavian metal collection is expansive, but I've been known to dip my fingers in many musical pies (I love pies). I am into a variety of music though and I may know a thing or two about artist X if you would ever want to give it a shot. I'm a movie nerd, too. I recently found out that I was part of a test audience for "Raising Arizona". I was 7 and I didn't like it. And apparently I told them in no uncertain terms. *Aliens reference

My Interests

Fascinating folk (it doesn't take much), heavy fuckin' metal, myself, travel, odd cultural references, looking forward, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), wheelin' n' dealin', reminiscin', Reuben sandwiches, root beer, hiking in Washington, ales, key lime pies, blustery fall days, factoids, public libraries...

I'd like to meet:

People who bring things to life that I would otherwise never notice, people who are good at the things that I am not, "the one" and any friend I may run into in my time. And all my Hollywood girlfriends (see blog).

Heroes:

No one person has ever been complete enough to be my hero. Instead, I tend to "heroize" certain traits. Whereas "hero" is an all encompassing term to me, "role model" is more what I see. Someday though, I will become my own hero and then hopefully I'll be the kind of father I never had.Stephen Colbert at White House Correspondence Dinner

My Blog

First quarter wrap-up, next quarter ramp-up.

I did pretty well.  Pulled off the improbable A from my Comm. 220 class and settled for an A- in my Comm. 101 class.  My performance in my 101 class got me an invitation to be an instructor&...

My 26-year-old thoughts on debt in America, 2008

If I’m to go into debt for anything, I’d rather it not be for a Communications degree from a public university.  A house?  Different story.  A family or a business venture?&...

Contemporary Americana def. & ex. *UPDATED* 3/28

My definition of Contemporary Americana is constantly being amended, but for now it’s something like this:  Anything uniquely American that has been experienced by a wide assortment of Amer...

Coming together like butt cheeks

No eloquent writings on the past week, just a brief update.  First off, I aced my final speech in Comm. 101.  Overall I’ve gotten A-’s on all four speeches and a B- on the midter...

Slayer did not deserve a Grammy

Slayer should not have won the best metal song.  Slayer has been around a long time, yes, and their influence on the scene is undeniable, but let's face it, they are OLD.  Their style and me...

Last week was rough, but brisket makes it better (PHOTO BLOG).

I gotta remember to keep current on this blog.  If it seems like I haven't done many interesting things since the road trip ended, then last week would be a notable exception.  We'll start w...

Polar Bear Run ’08

Just got done with the Lake Padden Polar Bear Run.  For those who don't know, a polar bear run is a tradition where you run into a freezing cold body of water on New Year's Day.  I've done i...
