Why in the world are we here; Surely not to live in pain and fear

About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas’ Myspace Editor V3.6 !
Here I am, finally! This is a video of myself doing some nail driving, using a thin piece of select pine and a thicker piece of white pine. The video and sound are out of sync and I wasn't pleased with how the video turned out so it will be up only until I make another. (By the way, don't I look like Slash and Bruce Lee had a love child?)
Yee haw! Here I am riding a mechanical bull. What you see was actually my second time riding, just minutes after the first. The previous attempt somehow didn't get recorded so I got to ride again for free having already paid for a DVD of my go. The picture quality is mediocre since my computer can't play DVD-RWs and I had to record the playback from my TV screen using my well-placed digital camera. The DVD doesn't have sound itself but there is static from my camera. Still cool to finally have up.
OK Go, On treadmills (My current favorite music video, featuring the band OK Go, performing choreographed moves - on treadmills! - to their song "Here it goes again", and in a single take! Ultra low budget but tons of fun that may sweeten a sour day.
Below is just one of the reasons why James Randi has been one of my heroes for decades. How many people, such as those in this video, stopped receiving medical help, from prescription drugs to surgeries, with the firm belief that they were cured? How many refused medical care to begin with in the hopes of being cured by a faith healer? Probably far too many, meaning at least one. But more than likely, thousands.
Slightly heavy, chipped toothed, 36 year old mobile phone salesman pursues his dream of having a professional singing career and competes in Simon Cowell's UK show "Britain's Got Talent". Will he impress the blunt, pen chewing judge and a live audience of 2000 people? You'll have to watch the video and see. Introducing Paul Potts:
Mid 1990's UK commercial for Club Med that won a Cannes Commercial Festival Gold Medal. A young Connor Trinneer, of TV's "Enterprise", is the star. One of my favorite commercials of all time!
Amazing how a person can take something regarded as juvenile silliness and create an enthralling artistic experience with it. Magician Raymond Crowe does just that, set to the song "What A Wonderful World".
My Chemical Romance's "Welcome to the Black Parade", the song that compelled me to listen to MCR. My father likes "Black Parade" as much as I do. Go figure.

My Interests

Living a life that proves the butterfly effect doesn't simply apply to chaos. Realizing nothing is trivial. Enveloping myself in Mother Nature's arms and being enchanted and soothed by her voice. Jigsaw and other puzzles. Great movies, music, and people. Strongman feats like those performed by Dennis Rogers or Slim the Hammer Man among others. Critical thinking thanks especially to the lovable "curmudgeon" James Randi. Learning self defense (which goes beyond mastering a combative art - for example: walking along the sidewalk facing traffic; yelling out important facts for others to hear about a suspect, their vehicle, etc. while they are committing a crime). Gazing at the stars with my naked eyes. Pursue an acting career not limited by my ethnicity. Science stuff. And, finally, here's the obligatory straight guy response: balancing the U.S.'s deficit... No, wait. That's not right.

I'd like to meet:

Linda Lee Cadwell; Ted Wong; Dan Inosanto (technically already had for seminar); James Randi; Niki Taylor and her family; George Lucas; Aria Giovanni; Mythbusters team; Bruce Campbell; Sam Raimi; Penn and Teller; Sarah Brightman; Tori Amos; David Copperfield; Bill Nye the Science Guy, Michael Shermer

Music:

While I enjoy music, I often find myself listening to individual songs or tracks rather than entire albums. Among my favorite performers are Nirvana, the Beatles, the Monkees, Sarah Brightman, Tori Amos, Nightwish, David Bowie, Sarah McLachlan, Danny Elfman, and John Denver. Classic rock, easy listening, Dixieland jazz, classical, opera, goth metal, and various types of punk can often be heard emitting from my speakers.

Movies:

Casablanca, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Star Wars (Episodes III-VI), The Iron Giant, Singin' in the Rain, Airplane!, On Her Majesty's Secret Service (and other James Bond films), Enter the Dragon, Frankenstein, Pirate Movie, Schindler's List, Bruce Lee: the Man... the Myth, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Young Frankenstein, The Killer, Shakespeare in Love, Sherlock Holmes films starring Basil Rathbone, Three Stooges (short films), Looney Tunes ("What's Opera, Doc?" by far my favorite), Wallace & Gromit shorts, Savannah Smiles, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers films.

Television:

The Lone Ranger; The Incredible Hulk; Kung Fu; Batman: the Animated Series; Quantum Leap; Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.; Sledge Hammer!; Mythbusters; Sealab 2021; Beavis and Butthead; Ultraman; Spongebob Squarepants; The Avengers; Whose Line is it Anyway? (US version); The Twilight Zone (TOS); Star Trek (TOS); Robot Chicken; UFC, Pride, mixed martial arts fighting; billiards; Shin Chan (Adult Swim dub).

Books:

The Crow (James O'Barr) and various other comics such as many Batman story arcs. Also, various books on Bruce Lee, Ripley's Believe It or Not, Jack Handey's Deep Thoughts series, compilations of the Far Side, books on nutrition or health, science stuff, and Carl Sagan's Demon Haunted World (which should be required reading in high schools).I do most of my learnin' and readin' on the internet... or is that the web? I'll have to look up the answer for that on the internet... or is that the web?

Heroes:

Bruce Lee, James Randi, Clayton Moore, Christopher and Dana Reeve, Robert Ripley, Joseph Merrick, Niki Taylor, Superman, Carl Sagan, Mr. Wizard (I realize Superman is a fictional character but he belongs here just the same. As for Niki Taylor, you might be surprised how much a smile on TV or in a magazine can help lift one's spirits.)

Promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep

Many years ago when I was a youthful, reckless, mindless idiot, what others might refer to as a kid, I was on my way to Chuck E. Cheese's (where a youthful, reckless, mindless idiot can be a youthful...

Anthology 1

Promising Galahad and the Business Card of Doom Last month I went to my local CVS Pharmacy to pick up some meds. There I was greeted by a presentable chap who asked me if I was a model or ac...

This made my day

Hey, all. Writing was once a favored means of communication for me. A few months ago, however, my writing was misunderstood because the person I was writing to did not know me very well, nor I her. We...

Why would an atheist be moral?

Speaking as an atheist, without digressing into why I choose the designation of agnostic, my reasons for being moral can be found in Mark Twain's essay What is Man?: "personal contentment and app...

The Shadow Demon

Last year I had a bizarre and initially terrifying experience. I was awoken in the middle of a sound sleep. As I lay I shifted my eyes to the edge of my window next to me. From it ...

Happy rebirthday to me.

First, it's not actually my birthday, but last year, on March 27, 2006, as I sat alone reliving an experience I hoped previously would never come again, I made a vow: Now it ends. All the suffering of...

My first acting job... came as a game.

Back at a time when I could count my age using only one hand came a pivotal event in my life. I remember very little of preschool, aside from, strangely enough, the napping. No cherished mem...

Why am I addicted to this?!

I cut one of my middle fingers today. That's the fourth time now in two weeks. Same place. And how does it continue to happen? Nail driving. (For those who don't know, I like to take nails and slam th...

Just 'cause I got a cock and dance, don't mean I'm your girl toy

First, yes, I realize I said girl toy. Madonna got it right. These days she may pay $26 for a piece of red yarn that should cost 2¢ at most, but back in the '80s, her "Boy Toy" belt was spot on a...
