Derrick flykid Severan

As one of Baton Rouge’s newest musical aggregation leaders, Derrick Severan is well on the way to become one of the premiere choral directors in the area. Born in Baton Rouge, La on October 17, 1982, Derrick Leonardo Severan was educated through the EBR parish school system and is currently a Mass Communications major at Southern University. The product of a musical family, while in school he began singing with various area choirs including Louisiana’s Absolute Pitch, his home church choir and national recording artists Kenneth Mitchell & the Voices of Praise. With an affinity towards the performing arts, Derrick continued in this tradition by participating in several citywide productions and school plays. In January of 2000 he partnered with longtime friend, Aaron Follins to form ADF/Sovereign Productions wich in 2005 became the Sovereign Entertainment Group, LLC, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of gospel music. In 7 short years, the Sovereign Entertainment Groupm LLC has produced one of Baton Rouge’s most anticipated events. Their annual Gospel Explosion/Artist Showcase gives area residents a chance to experience local and national artists in a live atmosphere. Derrick currently serves as the Artistic Director for S.E.G. and oversees the formation of several of the organizations annual events including the aforementioned Gospel Explosion/Artist Showcase, the Interdenominational Evangelism Crusade and the upcoming first annual Louisiana State College Choir Conference.Derrick is extremely active in the local and national Gospel scene with active membership of The Gospel Music Workshop of America, Min. Kevin Lemons & Higer Calling, former assistant director of the Southern University Interdenominational Gospel Choir. He is a former member of Atlanta’s Kevin Styles & Psalms. Derrick has been afforded the opportunity to share the stage with and or open up for gospel luminaries Beverly Crawford, Ricky Dillard, B. Chase Williams, Dottie Peoples, and Rance Allen, William Murphy, Lucinda Moore, among others. He’s also recorded with the Lighthouse Jr’s and Theralyn Rayborn and recently with EMI Gospel Recording Artist LaShun Pace on her “Complete” project. Also is a member/ministry partner of the Dream Center Church of Atlanta, Pastor William MurphyIn 2003 in His infinite wisdom, God placed a ministry in Derrick’s heart that promises to soon take the local music scene by storm.
