About Me

To paraphrase a favorite movie of mine, "You've met me at a very strange time in my life." After realizing that my career in law was crushing my soul, I walked away from it all and decided to start fresh, reboot my life, do what I should have done all along. I am a librarian now, complete with a Master of Arts degree in Library and Information Science, and I currently work two jobs. By day, I'm a law librarian, dividing my time between several different Central Florida law firms. By night, I work from home as a virtual reference provider, answering online reference questions and offering research assistance for patrons throughout the state and around the world. I love being a librarian -- I finally found my calling!
If you ask me, libraries are one of the most important institutions we have, where people are free to follow their interests and inform and entertain themselves (for free). I love pointing people in the right direction, helping them find what they need and enabling them to learn. I like research, I like organization, I like quiet, and I like books and collections very much. I think I'm finally in the right place.
In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, which was a natural spinoff of loving to eat. However, I'll never refuse a trip to a good deli or barbecue joint, and I really love Fuddruckers burgers and Thai and Greek food. I've played sax in every style from big band swing to ska-punk, and I have endless opinions about music. I still collect some action figures and the occasional graphic novel and DVD, but I'm always selling a lot of my stuff in an attempt to "travel lighter" and streamline my life. Let me know if you want anything; make me an offer I can't refuse!
Oh yeah, and I have the best friends anyone could ever ask for, to say nothing of the greatest girlfriend ever. She is The One -- I am so madly in love with her, so proud of her, so in awe of her.

My Interests

Friends, discovering new (and old) music, playing sax, going to shows, movies, good stuff on TV, graphic novels, action figures, cats, cooking, food, tasty beverages, libraries and library science, the First Amendment, retro culture, writing, travel, law and justice, and my beautiful and brilliant, sweet and sexy girlfriend.

I'd like to meet:

Cats. I like cats more than I like most people.
But I wouldn't mind meeting YOU either. Especially if you want to form a band with a sexy girl singer and twangy guitars and tight horns and play in minor keys and wear sharp suits. Then I'm your man. I'm a frustrated lounge musician looking for one last chance at rock stardom.

Heroes:

Spider-Man, for pointing out "With great power comes great responsibility." Batman, since he can beat ANYONE with prep time. Rupert Giles, for being a nerdy librarian who can still kick ass.
But seriously: My parents, for their patience and wisdom, for always trying to do the right thing, spurred on by the best of intentions. Stacey, for showing me how to feel, and love, and be loved. Joss Whedon, Alan Moore, Tom Waits, Quentin Tarantino, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and everyone else who creates great art and music and literature and entertainment, for inspiring us to be better people or to make the world a better place, or just distracting us and cheering us up when we realize this is as good as it gets. And anyone who takes a risk and steps outside of their comfort zone and decides to take their lives in a different direction if they find themselves on the wrong path, I raise my glass in your honor.

My Blog

Looks like Im graduating.

I just found out I passed my Comprehensive Exam, allowing me to graduate on May 3rd (provided I don't completely slack off in my final class).  This is good news, as I have been in school way too...
