Like a nerd from the late 19th century

About Me

I am remarkably honest, thoughtful, intelligent, and obsessed with music. I'm incredibly modest and not at all sarcastic. I have an inability to take anything too seriously but will take everything to heart regardless. I am overly self-aware and overly analytical. I care about people in my life because I can, I write music because I must and I nap because I like dreaming. I fall in love with gestures, miniature moments and glances because it's all the little things that comprise a person. In other news, I love spontaneous trips to the beach, a good dj, spicy tofu curry, and new books. I will alternately go out all hours of the night or stay home working on a scarf while watching a movie. I have blonde moments frequently and am prone to mishearing things late at night. Laundry is a daunting task but writing a thesis is fun. Terrible with practical details but fantastic at sweeping gestures. Often devolves into poor sentence structure by eschewing the use of the the pronoun "I."****You can check out my musical alter ego at: http://www.myspace.com/pamshaffermusic

My Interests

Music, sarcasm, you.

I'd like to meet:

Someone who can see the ironic tone to all of my artistic musings and take me seriously while laughing at me. Someone who will stay up odd hours talking and is always up for a good long walk or a random burrito. Someone who understands the importance of chocolate in my life. Someone who fears ending a sentence with a preposition. Anyone who buys me cupcakes gets bonus points.

Music:

In no particular order: Regina Spektor, Stars, Mum, R.E.M., Elliot Smith, Death Cab For Cutie, Rufus Wainwright, Sigur Ros, Tori Amos, Nine Inch Nails,Sondre Lerche, Cocteau Twins, Bowie, Bjork, Rosie Thomas, PJ Harvey, Patrick Wolf, Belle and Sebastian, Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley, Kings of Convenience, Ben Folds (Five), Massive Attack, Portishead, Fourtet, Neko Case, Leonard Cohen, Beck, Azure Ray, Jake Walden, The Eels, Jeff Buckley, Postal Service, Magnetic Fields, Tears in X-Ray Eyes, Cornelius, Radiohead, Stars, Her Space Holiday, Arab Strap, Tool, Simon and Garfunkel, Ben Lee, Rachael Yamagata, Beck, Yo La Tengo, Metric, The Submarines, Portishead...so many other that I am too lazy to list

Movies:

The works of David Lynch, paricularly Mulholland Dr. and Lost Highway, Cocteau's Orphee, Dancer in the Dark (I have only seen it once, and have not been able to bring myself to watch it again), Bufallo '66, The Court Jester, Eternal Sunshine, Bottle Rocket, Little Miss Sunshine, Wet Hot American Summer, Run Lola Run, Hedwig, Spirited Away, Annie Hall

Television:

Sadly, my favorite shows are always cancelled...Twin Peaks, Carnivale,Invader Zim and Arrested Development. I have been known to catch the Daily Show, but am not a t.v. person otherwise. Ocassionally, I flip on the music video channels out of sick curiosity because watching "The 40 Most Outrageously Stupid Celebrity Quotes" on VH1 becomes remarkably amusing when working out on the elliptical. Then again, watching paint dry is exciting when working out.

Books:

Authors: Anais Nin, Francesca Lia Block, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Jonathan Safran Foer, Nietzsche, Jeanette Winterson, Neil Gaiman. Please recommend books to me. I devour them too quickly and am always on the hunt. Currently reading a few books on sexuality so if you mention Foucalt around me, I may start twitching and ranting.

Heroes:

Anais Nin. Perfect in her flaws, and flawed in her perfection. Eddie Izzard. Executive Transvestite and funniest human alive.

Did I mention it's all about me?

I've been working so much recently that I am tired all the time and have no idea what to do with free time when I get it. Most of my kids are on spring break, so afternoons off will be a regular occur...

I have a confession to make. I am only updating this blog for attention. I love to feel wanted and intriguing. My thoughts are not always fascinating nor are they the most original but damn it, I want...
