Basically, Shaolyn has started producing beats after being involved in the makin of his own rap band, called KJAY (pronunced kay-gee-high) back in 2000 as he was 15. Drawn by the increasing influence and popularity of US hip-hop, the young prodigy -who was called Reejay back then- was mostly influenced by Dj Premier (still considered by Shaolyn as The best hip-hop producer of all time) and Swizz beatz as Ruff Ryders was his favorite rap label.
After years, He established is own method, never forgetting what he learnt when studying Primo and "The Monster". Now that Hip hop has become more commercial, Shaolyn had to open his ears and look for different inspirations, thus focusing on Timbo and The Neptunes' work. However, recent death of Hip Hop pioneer "J-Dilla" aka "Jay Dee" has been a big turn in Shaolyn's evolution. As dilla was in his Top 5, The kid Got back to the basics of hip hop and its expermerimental dimension wich identified J-D's musical universe.
Mainly workin with His elder brother "MATA" -a well know and certified local rapper- The Chi has recently started to collaborate with artist across and outside Europe. Although he's keen on phat soul music loops and weird compositions, Shaolyn (who got this last nickname after years of kung fu classes) is still evolving, workin day by day on his own signature...
