WARHAG .......... Imperial Quality Metal

About Me

WARHAG is a European-style N.W.O.B.H.M. metal project started by original Witchkiller guitar player Kurt Phillips. The music is a natural extension of the song-writing that created the metal classic song "Day of the Saxons", title track of the 1984 Metal Blade released Witchkiller debut, covered by U.S. metallers OCTOBER 31st , and featured on Metal Blade Records 15th & 20th Anniversary compilations. The songs are powered by metal wailer Dawn Hatchard, and the symphonic stylings of guitarist Kurt Phillips who also provides backing vocals. Joined on “Concussion Percussion” and harmony vocals by Scotty Gamble, and filled out by various bass players, the song catalog truly delivers “Imperial Quality Metal”.

Band Members: Dawn Hatchard - Throat ::: Scott Gamble - Les Batteries/Throat::: Kurt Phillips - Sixes/ Throat :::
Influences: Simply put, the result of a bands sound is a mixture of each members influences filtered through the writing of the songwriters, and the band's personal chemistry. WARHAG is no exception. Vocalist Dawn Hatchard calls on her love of classic metal and rock singers, male and female, and in particular Freddie Mercury. While sounding in no way like him, she infuses his flair and passion in her singing and live performance. Scott's huge palette of all music including jazz, funk, Broadway music and world music merges his aggressive and intense nature into the bands foundation, his drums driving the music like a Panzer tank. As the main songwriter/lyricist Kurt's influences are reflected in the diversity of his interests, ranging from Symphony music to Metal to heavy rock, and Biblical history and Renaissance characters are staples in the subject matter. Although you can hear the impact of the artists they each draw from separately, it is the mixture of them all that makes WARHAG music sound like WARHAG!!!!
Sounds Like: If you are a fan of the N.W.O.B.H.M. sound, chances are you will enjoy WARHAG. Based on that era of metal, the songs are sonically and compositionally linked, but not restricted to that fan base. Symphonic twin rhythm guitar work & melodic solos, strong vocals and vivid imagery power the music, tied down with a solid, thundering rhythm section. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, Pretty Maids, Accept, Witchkiller, Saxon.. the list goes on!!!
