About Me
She may have just celebrated her 21st birthday but Russian superstar Alsou has already lived a life it would be impossible to invent. She has changed the face of popular music in her home country, made her big screen debut, forged a new life in three different countries, starred in her own couture fashion shoot in Russian Vogue and, most importantly of all, written a stunning album set to show the rest of the world what they`ve been missing out on. Born in the Muslim state of Bugulma in Russia, Alsou was brought up in Siberia when her parents moved there to start their oil company.
Despite not knowing a word of English when she first moved to America, Alsou mastered the language within weeks of arriving and adjusted well to a completely new life. I`d go to school on that yellow bus and eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. It was like being reborn. I had to get used to everything all over again."
Within a year, she had become Russia`s biggest teen star, shocking no one more than Alsou herself. "It took me a long time to get used to it. I was so unprepared for it. I remember just after my first single came out performing in a nightclub and crying all day because I was so nervous. But then I came out on stage and the crowd knew all the song off by heart and were singing along. It was the best feeling ever."
Alsou was suddenly in demand everywhere. She featured on the cover of Russian Cosmopolitan and FHM while Russian Vogue devoted several glossy pages to the singer.
In 2000, Alsou recorded her first English language single and was promptly entered into the Eurovision Song Contest, eventually coming second overall. The song she sang went on to sell 100,000 copies and became the biggest selling single of all time in her home country, surpassed only by Alsou`s next single, a duet with Enrique Iglesias. `I really enjoyed performing with him in the Kremlin and I hope our paths will cross again`.
After such phenomenal success in Russia, Alsou realises the time now seems right to let the rest of the world catch up. She has spent the last year enjoying her anonymity in London while working hard on a debut International album set to turn heads and shatter preconceptions. Fittingly titled `Inspired`, it moulds R&B, pop and hip-hop into one soulful, mesmeric sound, fused together with Alsou`s startling, absorbing vocals. As word spread, she found herself working with the world`s best producers and `Inspired` features the considerable talents of Rhett Lawrence (Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey), Justin Trugman (Eminem, Coolio), the Bass Brothers (Eminem) and Morten Schjolin (LeeAnn Rimes, Shaznay Lewis).
She even duets with rap superstar, Nelly, on `I Wish I Didn`t Know`, set to be the second single release from the album. "We sent the song over to him and he loved it and he`s such a huge artist that he can say no to anyone unless he likes the song.
Just when Alsou believed things couldn`t get any more perfect, Joseph Khan - famed video director for the likes of Eminem, U2, Britney Spears and Destiny`s Child to name just a few - agreed to direct the video for her debut single, `Always On My Mind`. "If I had ever dreamed of working with anyone, it would be him. He did an amazing job. I loved working with him." With an album she couldn`t be more proud of, a video set to cause a stir and even a major film (`Spirit Trap`, out this Autumn starring Billie Piper and Luke Malby) ready to unleash, it looks like Alsou`s life is set to take an even more unbelievable turn.
This time, though, the world will be watching. "For five years I`ve been living two lives between London and Russia. It`s been so long and I`ve been waiting and writing and working really hard on this album and I want to let people everywhere hear it. It`s time now.THIS PAGE IS A FAN-MADE PAGE AND IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH ALSOU , HER MANAGEMENT OR UNIVERSAL MUSIC"
