I have been playing the Blues since the age of 10…I heard some Leadbelly records whilst standing outside a record shop in Paddington, where I was bought up…..not knowing what this music was and having nobody to ask, it took another couple of years and Lonnie Donegan to give me access to this wonderful music. I learnt guitar listening to Leadbelly, Donegan and Hank Marvin…
The sixties came and to my surprise the blues was the music that was being played….I played with many blues bands because of my knowledge of this genre…….Jimi Hendrix came along and like most other guitarists played this style blues…only my rootes got in the way…. I was now too bluesy…
I played with many bands in the 60s until a chance came to go to Hamburg in Germany. I went on a two week contract and stayed there for nearly 25 years playing with the German Band Madison and the Dutch band Friends…….After 14 years of touring…I then went into session work mainly on Bass …..In the 70s, on an American tour I met Stanley Clark (he wasn’t well known then) who showed me a few things on the bass…..that was it….I had moved to Bass.
I play 5 string and Fretless bass with Blues is Truth Trio and Big Band and acoustic and slide in the Duo…….Blues is still and always will be my first love….but I can slip into a bit of smooth jazz very easily
