I LOVE OUTDOORS---all of it. hiking, camping, kayaking, walking on the beach, swimming, horseback riding. I love the serenity of being surrounded by nature and knowing that God loved me enough to create a serene habitat. Nature, for me, is a big hug from God.I LOVE KARL. When I started dating him, I had no idea what a gift he would bring to my life. He is the thing in life I look forward to most.Things that keep me interested academically include interpersonal/relational therapy, existential philosophy (meaning, purpose, life/death issues), self-injurious behavior, eating disorders, trauma/abuse, women's issues/gender studies, religios studies, and the integration of psychology and theology
I already have met Jesus, but I continue to long for the day that i can meet him physically and getting to be in his absolute presence, loving him. I am also looking forward to heaven to have the opportunity to meet the founding fathers of my faith...and I would really like to meet my grandpas, both of which died before I was born.I can't think of any celebrities that I would like to meet.I think I would enjoy chatting with Maya Angelou...and possibly Oprah.
I like just about every genre of music. My musical hero is Alanis Morrisette. Nothing compares to her in my eyes! Other interests are: Ryan Shupe & the Rubber Band,Coldplay, hellogoodbye, Waterdeep, Jennifer Knapp, Bright Eyes, Aretha Franklin, Carrie Underwood, The Killers, Barenaked Ladies, Switchfoot, Modest Mouse, Muse, Suprchik, Kelly Clarkson, Three Days Grace, Gretchen Wilson, JoDee Messina, Alan Jackson, Dixie Chicks, Interpol, Dido, Evanescence, Sarah McLachlan, Peter, Paul, & Mary, Beatles, Simon & Garf, Ani Difranco, Fred Astaire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beck, India.Arie, The Shins, Eels, Keane, Harry Connick Jr...and MANY, MANY others.
As long as I am with my IBM ("ideal black man" ), it doesn't matter what we are watching. ;-).... One of m favorites is "The Upside of Anger." This is one of those rare films you can watch 100 times and still see again.Others include the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Narnia, Neverland, ET, the Neverending Story, I am Sam, Rainman, 28 Days, Groundhog Day, Girl Interrupted, When Harry Met SAlly, Something New, Akeelah and the Bee...and, I have to admit, I LOVE all those cheesy 80's films like Ferris Buelers Day Off, Sixteen Candles, the Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire, Better Off Dead, Pretty in Pink, etc.
Can't live without Gilmore Girls and Grey's Anatomy. I have watched every single episode of both of these since their creation. (Too bad this is the last season of Gilmore girls. I am going to have to grieve the loss).I don't really watch much t.v. beyond this. I occasionally will watch America's Next Top Model (I know; shameful), and I am starting to watch Dr. Phil more (I can't really stand his approach, but his confrontation is amusing). I also like Friends reruns...and Karl has recently gotten me into The Sopranos (which has also recently died).
Sadly, as a result of grad school (and my neurotic personality style), I read mostly educational/academic/research-oriented books. Probably nothing others would be greatly interested in....However, my favorite reading of all time comes from an author named Oriah Mountain Dreamer. This Canadian author has created a series of 3 books--- The Invitation, The Dance, and The Call. Amazing!
Jesus...I do not only admire you, but I love you. I still find it completely amazing that you would so willingly sacrifice your life for me, even in my imperfection. KRISTIN, KRISTIN, KRISTIN----You are my human hero!!! Without you, I would no be here. I have shared more of myelf with you than anyone else in the world, and I have felt more love in return than I could have only imagined. In fact, you are the closest thing to unconditional love I have found in all my life. Your support continues to grow within me, giving me courage to obtain my goals and step out on unchartered territory. I feel honored to have you in my life.
