Growing up Kay-Doe comes from a Jamaican home; she started singing at the age of four and was influenced then by her father who was also an entertainer. In 1991 her father was murdered. This event clearly turned Kay-Doe to the streets for support. Kay-Doe was forced to leave the house at the age of 15 because of her street life. This helped her to quickly grow up and now find her own way even before being an adult. Kay-Doe had a baby girl, and at this point had realized that now she had something more to live for she decided to leave the streets and turn to the studio, she decided to now take her music seriously.She began rapping at the age of seventeen and although she had been recording songs since 1995 it was in 1997 when she linked up with a hip-hop group called Motives. The group did shows all over Canada and then eventually agreed to split to pursue their individual careers.
Between then and now Kay-Doe has been determined to make her mark in the music industry. Kay-Doe writes her own music and has a style like no other. She has no apologizes when it comes to expressing herself on the microphone. Kay-Doe is sexy but classy; her lyrics can be raw, as she deals with everyday struggles. She refuses to be that “chick†hanging behind any male as she tries to establish herself as an individual and not just a female artist. Kay-Doe is no one’s puppet or protégée. Unafraid to use what she’s got to get her what she wants Kay-Doe says “You can’t stop this.†Kay-Doe’s flow speaks for itself and she has all the men sweating while she is holds things down for the ladies.Kay-Doe hit the streets with a mix tape, “2 Hot 4 the Streets, Volume 1.â€selling over 5000 copy’s in Toronto and New York
She has made numerous appearances including the Miss. Caricom Beauty Pageant. She opened for reggae artist Merciless, and has done dub plates all over including in Jamaica, the United States and Canada. She has even done dub plates for Stone Love, an internationally known sound station. Kay-Doe has been interviewed and her songs have been pumping on 89.5 FM Project Bounce Radio, 102.3 Red hot Radio in Brooklyn New York and she performed for Honey Jam and other concerts and functions within North America. So don’t get it twisted she has a lot to bring to the table as far as talent and she will take no prisoners in the process. She is definitely here to make lots of noise and take her spot.
