Dirty South County is the truth. A bold statement? Yes. An overused and often unjustified cliché’? Absolutely. However, in the case of these two musical masterminds, it is merely an understatement. Not only is Dirty South County the truth, they are the future transposed into the present; providing auditory and visual pleasures through their music. The main orator and lead lyricist, Royale, fixates his lyrical creations upon masterfully woven compositions from uber – producer 2wentyWon. The end result is the perfect union of music with the potential of sheer greatness.
2wentyWon (Junior) and Royale (Mayowa) are brothers, born and raised on the Westside of Dallas, Texas. From childhood, inherent God – given musical talents began to shape. Early on, their parent's taste in music increased the brothers’ curiosity. Perhaps one day these two could create musical offerings akin to the Afro, Reggae, Soft Rock, and Gospel music they constantly listened to. That time came quickly. By the tender age of 10, Royale began writing rhymes with imagery that captivated and stirred every listener. His tales of every day life captures the essence of life, similar to a painter creating a portrait of his immediate world. 2wentyWon drew an interest into musical production. Since the age of 14, he has crafted and mixed sounds together like a master composer, leaving countless fans of his music in awe. Like a master magician, no one is sure what 2wentyWon will pull out of his bag of tricks. But like any good show, the fans keep coming back for more. With these two talents combined, the sky is literally the only limit to the heights these two will soon ascend.
Evidence to back that claim can be seen on their 2007 EP, Live From the Republic of Texas. The EP, which is in stores now, is “a lyrical and musical epic;†states one iTunes reviewer, “an odyssey that evokes the listener’s emotions in ways rarely heard in music today. Consisting of a diverse array of lyrical styling and musical bravado, the eight-track masterpiece is a quintessential must have item.
