About Me

Roger Shenk Bio
Identical twin with Rodney (myspace.com/rodneyshenk) since about 4 or 5 days after conception. Before that we were the same person. Hmmm...
Became Wendy's husband at the ripe young age of 19. Became a father for the first of four times at 24. Became an adult many years later.
Started singing publicly at age 4 or something. Inextricably influenced by the a cappella singing of my Mennonite upbringing, I cut my permanent teeth on bluegrass and southern gospel as a part of the Shenk Family Gospel Quartet!
First band was Mirror Image. We were a Christian rock band in Sarasota, Florida which means we played I think three times before disbanding a year later. Okay, my brother tells me it was eleven times. Felt like three. But boy did we practice! 5 hours a day 6 days a week. What else was there?
Band members later rejoined to form The Sharks. We made a living out of alternative-techno-dance-pop-college-rock in the clubs of Central Florida.
Left the Sharks when, after five years, I had an encounter with Jesus Christ that transformed my life at the core. Not only gave me a new heart and hunger for being all about what God was all about. Also reawakened in me a call to the ministry that I had first sensed in my early teens.
Moved to Portland, Oregon. In 1994 was one of several families that helped start Eastridge. I was the drummer in the beginning, but they moved me to worship leader after a few months. In 1999 they called me to full time ministry as their Worship Pastor .
Released "Beautiful Daily Grind" in 2005. Currently have a catalog of umpteen songs that I hope to release in 2006/7.

Going to Hell for a Few Bags of Chips?!

Bekah's Barrista was broken into Friday night. Someone took a big rock, threw it through a window, made a mess of things and made away with some bags of potato chips. Cost of the window? Probably $10...

Alaska

I'm writing from the Millenium Hotel (Iditarod Race Headquarters) in Anchorage, Alaska. I've never been to AK before, and wouldn't you know it, they're having a warm spell. It's actually 33 degrees ri...

Redemptive Relationships

"We should be engaging the culture in a redemptive relationship where radical grace can be lived out, perhaps even more than sung about." I made this statement a while back while booking a christian ...

What's that smell?!

Our church meets in a school. And several weeks ago, when we arrived there was sort of a stinky smell. Common fare for a middle school. But as the morning went on, the halls smelled like someone ...
