"SACRED KNOWLEDGE IN THE CAVES UNDER SKYSCRAPERS"

About Me

THIS PROFILE IS NOT MAINTAINED BY MICK KARN OR PETER MURPHY!!!! IT IS MADE BY FANS!!!!! We were simply frustrated that this collaboration of our beloved musicians didn't have its own MySpace page... so we decided to make one. Promise to fill it with decent content later. ...there are two reasons a person can become interested in Dalis Car: he (or she!) is either a fan of Japan/related, or Bauhaus/related. There's absolutely nothing to be surprised at. The "Dalis Car" project started when both New Wave/Psychedelic cult bands were dissolved, to the great disappointment of their numerous fans. So... that's where the history starts and ends. Mick Karn (born Anthony Michelides, 24 July 1958), the acknowledged God of fretless bass, one day decided to phone Peter Murphy (born 11 July 1957), who was just starting to be a Gothic pin-up, due to his performance in "The Hunger" movie and the Maxell tapes ad. Their meeting resulted in a short-term collaboration, that broke (unfortunately!!!) because of the "musical incompatibility". Though the seven songs they did together were, so to say, more than perfect - just imagine a mix of 80's New Wave synths, medi..really medieval!!!) religious chants, frozen futuristic imagery and otherworldly (or Oriental-influenced?..) lyrics. Maybe it's even better that the two philosophers decided to cease their collaboration - who knows what would have happened after their only "Waking hour" album?.. Fortunately, this religious exctasy didn't end with the Dalis Car's ascension to the clouds. The albums Mick and Peter made separately sound somehow similar to this band, especially MK's record "Each Eye a Path" and PM's "Should The World Fail To Fall Apart". 2006 seems to be extremely fruitful for the boys, Mick will soon be releasing a new album, and Peter will be touring with Bauhaus all summer, first with the Industrial popstars Nine Inch Nails, then on their own. Cheers to them!.. By the way, what does Dali's Car really mean?.. You should visit the Catalan town of Figueres to see it. It is also called Rainy Taxi, and it's now the most famous exhibit of the Dali's Theatre-Museum. It's really rainy - there are sprinklers inside the cab. The painting on the "Waking Hour" cover is by Maxfield Parish, an American artist who used to paint happy psychedelic pictures just like for the food ads, so if you're hungry or sad, don't look at them. Sounds Like: Mick Karn's "Each Eye a Path" and Peter Murphy's "Should The World Fail To Fall Apart" are directly influenced by Dalis Car. If you like Dalis Car, then you should also love Japan's "Tin Drum", then David Sylvian's earlier albums and anything by Jansen/Barbieri/Karn. They also got compared to David Bowie and Brian Eno.
