Hey Everyone!
First things first..the 'screaming goodmorning' thing is an idea for a band name or song title...I came up with it on a super cool trip to montreal...maybe it'll be used in the future for something. Other than that, i like the way it sounds!
I'm Katie Bragg from Ottawa, Canada. I'm a solo artist, hoping to join a band one day..but as for now I'm gaining some experience in the music and recording biz. I was born in Ottawa, and have always lived here. I'm 22 now, and I have to say I'm quite happy with living here my whole life. I sang ever since I could talk - from what I've been told - and have put it to some use throughout the years. My performance experience is quite spotty and all over the map - singing with and soloing for choirs (a church choir when I was a kid, Concert choirs, and Jazz Choir in high school), been in a few musicals, sang at family functions and a couple times with my brothers' x band (Keep Yourself Good Company..they were extremely talented - and still are: check out Transparent Records with Jon Chandler, ex member of KYGC at www.myspace.com/transparentrecords), had a couple jobs recording at Sound of One Hand Studios (an English Learning program for children in China, and a demo version of a top 40 style UK dance song), and of course singing around camp fires with friends! As for instruments...I can play some piano and keyboards, and played some trombone and clarinet a lonnnng time ago for music class (obviously, non of that stuck...probably shouldn't even be mentioned) I never learnt how to read music...but I can pick up melodies and form harmonies pretty quickly, so it was never a drawback. It wasn't until recently that I decided to learn guitar. I was taught a few chords and progressions in the summer of 2005, and have been practicing like it's an obsession. I learn new chords by writing songs...and calling one of my super talented guitar playing friends to help me out with a progression. For a while I stubbornly (and lazily) refused to learn bar chords...but u run out of things to learn quite quickly without them! So, pretty much now I play rhythm guitar (not very well but it does the trick for songs I'm writing) some piano, and vocals. I've played at about 20 open mics at a few different venues in the Ottawa area, and I still get kinda nervous before going up on stage, and am still a little shaky when I get off. It's a nervewrecking, exhilerating rush that I'm definetely addicted to. And when one person tells me that the music hit them in some way, or that they can relate, it's all worth it! (Yeah yeah..corny, i know...but that's me. :)) So, now I'm currently recording my debut album, with James Nicol of Forty Cent Fix (check out their website, www.fortycentfix.com, they rock out to the max and are super cool) and it's just a matter of finding time to get the tracks laid down!
