About Me

Planned to include over 1 million square feet of modern retail, the stores at Steelyard Commons will cover only a portion of the land once occupied by the over two million square feet of buildings that made up the No. 2 Finishing Mill. Some of the steel mill buildings were in excess of two thousand feet in length and over one hundred feet in height. Buildings of similar size and proportion exist as part of the existing operating mill just east of Steelyard Commons and will appear as a back drop for the development. Drawing upon the context of the adjacent steel mill, Cleveland’s Steelyard Commons will pay homage to Cleveland’s century old steel-making past in architectural theme and design. The building's design will reflect the scale and materials of the steel mill structures that once occupied the site in part by creating a long industrial scaled masonry wall along the building front that will appear as a remnant wall from times past. Tall open air structures with roof lines that emulate the mill buildings will frame the entrances into each of the major tenants. Complementing the design, industrial materials including vertical corrugated metal siding as well as translucent wall and roof panels will be integrated into the architecture. The setting for Steelyard Commons will include over 20 percent green space with more than 600 trees designed to blend with the urban and industrial character of the architecture.
