About Me

The Mom Song - This is a song Matt Epp & I wrote and it's performed by Matt Epp, Kerri Woelke & Brian James.
"I received this album several months ago and was quite surprised to be so taken with it. Kerri has a unique energy that is compelling without being too “in your face.” The first listen was pleasant enough but I found myself returning to the CD several times over the next weeks - something I don’t often do.
Great voice. Great songs. It’s a terrible thing to compare, but one can certainly here overtones of Patti Griffin and Sarah Harmer in Kerri.
The production is very nicely done - acoustic based, melodic and diverse. Each song grows on you in it’s own time working their way into your consciousness as you find yourself humming bits and pieces throughout the day. Brian James (co-producer and multi-instrumentalist) adds all sorts of nuances and colour reminiscent of the likes of Kevin Briet. I hope this is the first of many projects". - Steve Bell

Kerri Woelke was born and raised in the Friendly Manitoban city, Winnipeg.
She spent a large portion of her life singing, whether to a karaoke machine that was in her room, to school and church plays and wrote her first song as Oak Park's graduation song, which she will never again sing even if she is paid to...I believe the lyrics even go something like "Oak Park is a great memory for me, and for yoooouuuuu"
In 1996, she went away to college, where her parents randomly dropped her off a guitar stating that "If she wanted to take music seriously, she needed to learn to back herself up." Kerri learned how to play the guitar mainly in the tiny shared bathroom of her dorm room, as her roommate was not a fan of hearing the screeching cat noises that happen when one does not know how to play the guitar.
She started gigging the next year, and played for a few years with her band (Dirty Old Hank) (Name changed to Gretchen)
She then switched to solo music and was given her first opportunity to record a full-length solo album when she won the Manitoba Christian Talent Search, a local vocal competition hosted through Avante Records and CHVN radio. Kerri's debut album was released February, 2007 at the West End Cultural center in Winnipeg, and was produced by amazingly talented producers Jordan Jackiew & Brian James.

Kerri toured across Western Canada with Kallistos Von Remple and Laura Kolisnyk in January/February 07' and has just returned from a tour through the greater Toronto area with Brian James (her producer/co-writer and music partner) (April 07')
Her and Brian James will be heading out on the road again in October of this year, returning to Western Canada, please check back as dates begin to fill up regarding this.

Summer shows include an emerging artist/tweener sets at the Brandon Folk Festival, The Winnipeg Fringe Festival & a triple bill with Winnipeg's Matt Epp, and Calgary's Billy Manzik.
Kerri was most recently nominated for 2 covenant awards - Roots/Folk album of the year & CD Design of the year (design by Cyndi Koshowski) as well as a WCMA (Western Canadian Music Award) for Outstanding Christian Recording. Award's will take place in October 07.
and now...some less serious facts.....
About ME
Real height: 5’2
Height with tall boots: 5’5 ½ (WOOHOO)
Likes: singing, feeling inspired, when I have time to just breathe, walks through the forest, taking photographs (it’s my day job when I’m not singing), design, when my car blinker goes in time with my music, MJ Anne clothing, a good sappy movie, interesting movies, when I wear tall boots and the world feels different to look at, tacos, drum jams, the fall (haha – when I read through this I thought “The fall?? The fall of MAN?? And then I was like – OOOOOhhhh….The season FALL), laughing so hard with friends that it feels like I’ll never stop, hearing my son (and husband) make up ridiculous stories that would never happen, good friends and family, CHRISTMAS, my mom’s homemade chicken soup on a cold day, when all the street lights are in sync, road trips, wacky stories and things that I swear only happen to me – or I’m the only one that thinks it’s funny….bringing back old sayings – like WOOP WOOP!! The way the air smells just before it rains, Good concerts, or good music, yeah – things like that….
Dislikes: Dogs wearing clothes – I just REALLY don’t get it! When people never ask you to do things – they just hint, feeling insecure, when kids can’t just be kids, pop-country music (haha), for some reason when people type “lol” - I can’t handle it, when I get no email in one day (sad), when good people aren’t treated the way they should be, when you put your blinker on and no one lets you in!! (SOOOO Winnipeg!!!) soup on a really hot day……yeah – that’s about all I can think of….
