we are a bunch of Bedford-based adults who love watching live music and have the ability to get up off our arses and help young local bands get gigs, demo CD's, rehearsal space, web sites, advice, encouragement, hugs, kisses and just about anything else that young local bands might need just to get ahead in a business that is, as we all know, full of bullshit and false promises.
Take a look at our web site, www.swmtf.org.uk, to learn more about us.
"we are a local fund, for local people"
Please guys, if you're from Manchester, or Italy (just two of the people who have been in touch recently), or anywhere else outside of a 30 mile radius from Bedford, it's really not worth the bother of asking us to be of help to you, or even to add you as a friend here on myspace.Having said that, we are here to help young local musicians. We stage two gigs a year at Esquires in Bedford, which always make a profit (thanks mainly to the generosity of those who come and play, DJ, do the lights, sound, security, etc. for little or no money), and we use the money that we make from those gigs to fund young local bands make a demo CD, or get rehearsal space (we know a lot of people!!), get more gigs, merchandising, advertising, whatever they need.
We have close links with Esquires, Bedford Metal, Dirty Zine, Bedford Music Centre, the Bedfordshire Music Speech and Dance Festival, local recording studios, music teachers, web designers, just about anybody you would need to get a head start.
We are NOT a charity; we don't throw money at anything that knows one end of a guitar from the other - we will help you if we think you've got commitment and potential. Plus, if we do help you, we expect something back in return, whether that is 50p on every copy of your CD that you sell or an agreement to play a gig for us at our next Tribute Gig.
Speaking of which, all you Bedfordians check out www.swmtf.org.uk/futurenews.htm for details of our next Tribute Gig; it is going to be our best yet! And please remember, the people who look after the Trust do all this for free - we do it because we love live music, and want to see it grow and flourish in what is otherwise a fairly boring town!!!
THE SID WORTH MEMORIAL TRIBUTE FUND = HELPING YOUNG MUSICIANS
Incidentally if you don't know who Sid Worth was - shame on you! check out the web site for details.
