My Interests

Music, books, movies, theatre, and just about anything in the art world.

I'd like to meet:

interesting people that create and appreciate art and have different views on the mundane world. That's all.

Music:

After a youth in hard rock and prog, I got heavily into punkrock in 1977. I managed an Ohio band, Toxic Reasons, and have been a promoter, record label, fanzine editor, and disc jockey. Aging has taken me deeper into the psychedelic folk scene where I have a huge collection of rare records from the 60s and 70s. Bands/Artists include: Comus, Spriguns, Spirogyra, Davy Graham, Ougenweide, Incredible String Band, Caedmon, Midwinter, Roy Harper, Pentangle, among thousands more. I also like other sixties groups like Love and Nuggets related bands. Urban living has gotten me back into harder music and I also try to keep up with what is happening these days.

Movies:

Older movies a bit more preferable, but I still hit the theatres. Top Ten would include: Cat People; The Wanderers; Sunset Boulevard; Godfather II; The Good, the Bad and the Ugly; Little Otik; Seconds; Touch of Evil; Ganja & Hess; The Asphalt Jungle.

Television:

Television is mostly for movies, with the following exceptions:The Simpsons is about the best comedy ever, and perfect for my agegroup.The Prisoner is a great head trip from the sixties.The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show was a great influence in my youth.

Books:

TOP TEN FAVORITE BOOKS: FICTION: 1 Hamlet, William Shakespeare, 1600; 2 Lolita, Vladimir Nabokov, 1955; 3 The Remains of the Day, Kazuo Ishiguro, 1988; 4 The Long Good-bye, Raymond Chandler, 1954; 5 The Sheltering Sky, Paul Bowles, 1949; 6 L.A. Confidential, James Ellroy, 1990; 7 Body, Harry Crews, 1990; 8 The Killer Inside Me, Jim Thompson, 1952; 9 To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee, 1960; 10 Nightmare Alley, William Lindsay Gresham, 1946;NON-FICTION: 1 Hollywood Babylon, Kenneth Anger, 1975; 2 All I Need is Love, Klaus Kinski, 1988; 3 England's Dreaming, Jon Savage, 1992; 4 From Yale to Jail, David Dellinger, 1993; 5 Wanderer, Sterling Hayden, 1963; 6 Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung, Lester Bangs, 1987; 7 Way of Zen, The, Alan W. Watts, 1957; 8 Please Kill Me, Legs McNeil + Gillian McCain, 1996; 9 Six Wives of Henry VIII, The, Alison Weir, 1991; 10 Ball Four, Jim Bouton, 1970;

Heroes:

Of all the interesting people I've met, I am most humbled by David Dellinger who is a strong inspiration in living your ideals and challenging the system when it fails. But this is, of course, simplistic, read his writings for the big picture.
