About Me

Benjy Fox-Rosen is a bass player living in Brooklyn, New York City. After studying in Buenos Aires in the Fall of 2005 with maestro Javier Dragun, Benjy returned to NY to finish his degrees at the New School and immediately joined the Luminescent Orchestrii, a gypsy/tango/klezmer/punk string band based in Brooklyn. Since then, Benjy has toured internationally performing throughout the United States and Europe. Benjy was a recipient of the Bronfman Fellowship for Emerging Jewish Student Artists in 2007, for “Minutn fun Bitokhn” his suite melding Yiddish songs with improvised and composed music. And he even sings too. Benjy has studied voice and Yiddish song with Lorin Sklamberg, of the Klezmatics, and is immersing himself in Yiddish, mostly by leaving incomprehensible messages on his Grandmother's voicemail.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: I am a member of the PLAY trio: The PLAY trio showcases three diverse musicians who share a common goal of spontaneous microtonal expression. With inspiration drawn from art songs, Jazz standards, cantorial music and the 20th century avant-garde the ensemble is mapping a new language of rhythm and pitch which steps proudly into new musical territory. The PLAY trio is the featured band of the Boston Microtonal Society's improvised music series and features Juan Pablo Carletii- drums, Benjy Fox-Rosen- bass, Noah Kaplan- tenor saxophone. And i have a New Jewish Music Ensemble, Minutn fun Bitokhn, "Moments of Faith/Confidence" which is the PLAY trio plus singer, accordionist, pianist extraordinaire Judith Berkson.
Influences: Improvised music, and composed music, good music and even sometimes bad music.
