MORE HOT SAUCE, LESS POLICE STATE!

About Me

BOXCAR BERTHA began as duo - nego and larkin found each other in greensboro, nc. they discovered a mutual love for bikes, southern cookin, and good harmonies. they started playing together - larkin on drums, nego on guitar - and played their first show in a parking lot in late oct. of 2000, at a free show that nego helped to organize called 'youth culture against the police state.'danny, and his hot pink bass, joined the band in spring of 2004. *we're currently groomin' the phenomenal banjo boi, one song at a time.*boxcar bertha prefers to play shows where the unifying factor is the politics, not the musical genre or fashion style. we enjoy playing for mixed audiences, and sharing the stage with lots of different kinds of artists who are all down for radical social change. we believe that revolution is not just about the science of politics and economics, but also about culture, of which music is a crucial element.THE 9 SONG CD 'GUILTY COUNTY STOMP' IS AVALABLE FOR $6. ALL THE PROFITS WILL GO TO THE FAMILY OF GIL BARBER, A YOUNG BLACK MAN KILLED IN GUILFORD COUNTY IN 2001 BY A SHERIFF'S DEPUTY. GIL'S PARENTS STRUGGLED FOR 5 LONG YEARS TO GET JUSTICE FROM THE COURT SYSTEM AND HAVE DEPLETED THEIR RETIREMENT SAVINGS. IN JUNE, 2006, A FEDERAL JUDGE DROPPED THEIR SUIT AGAINST DEP. GORDY. for more info about gil's case and police brutality in nc, please visit www.ncoct22.org

Sounds Like: maybe if the violent femmes were southern anarcha-feminists with female vocals and a bit more soul. its been said that we sound like the indigo girls meets motorhead, but we feel more like the dixie chicks meets the clash. we also hope its obvious that we listen to a lot of hip hop.
