...The left and right hand independence of sam yahel...The deceptive simplicity of the neptunes' production....Philly soul rennaissance... Everything Herbie ever touched (cept some of that 80's stuff he did, hmm)... Branford Marsalis' versatility and ridiculous musicianship...Keith Jarretts's utter mastery of the piano, melodic and harmonic concepts, and brilliant, unparalleled solo'ing ideas...The way brazilian music makes me feel...Soca music at carnival...Jay-Z's rythmic phrasing...Brian Blade's approach to jazz n groove...Larry Goldings for recording on albums like 'Caminhos Cruzados', 'Time is of the Essence' with Michael Brecker, then going off n recording 'Life On Planet Groove' with Maceo. oh yeh, not to mention that he's one of my favorite organ players of all time...Jimmy McGriff cuz he swings his d%$.. off!...the way Kenny Kirkland and Tain used to play together...Van Halen cuz he got me ready countless mornings for school as a kid ("Jump" 1984)...i'm influenced by Dave Mathews for selling out Madison Square Garden for weeks at a time while exposing fans to good musicianship. and for showing me what college kids stoned out of their gords like to listen to...even tho i don't listen to their music often enuff, U2 for just being the paragon of success as a rock band...Sting's tenacity as a young solo artist to break the mold...Sonny Rollins' ability to make u feel harmony when he solo's...early funk bands like Sly, Isley Bros, Parliament, JB, Earth, Wind & Fire...seeing live shows like Prince...Chick Corea's perfection, (which will always sit on the fence of being intimidating)...Bobby McFerrin and Chick together in "Play" cuz its the best i ever heard Chick play...Jazzy Jeff cuz he showed me the door to the world of production...the way Dilla, RIP, influenced EVERYONE who produced(s) hip hop..."We Get Requests" Oscar Peterson- one of the most perfect jazz albums ever recorded...the world of WORLD music, and it is a big one...Lennie Tristano's ridiculous single line sololing on piano...Kenny Barron's "People Time"- nuff said...Joey DeFrancesco's mastery of the B...D'Angelo...Curtis Mayfield...Jacky Terrason with Cassandra Wilson...TRIBE CALLED QUEST - beats, raps etc...Slum (same reasons)...Bob James for his shit in the 70's, and his approach to soloing...Gonzalo Rubalcaba and how i never know what time signature he's in...early R&B like TLC...Tribal Tech...80's bands like Tears for Fears, Joy Division, or any soundtrack from any 80's movies with John Cusack or Molly Ringwald...
