The first signs of the metal quintet entitled Atma date back to late 2004, when Nathan Da Silva (guitar, voice), while pursuing his school studies in Ottawa, began to compose songs that were considered a solo project at the time. In addition, Nathan and his brother Daniel Da Silva (voice) just recently formed a band located in the Cornwall area by the name of Tied To Fate. After writing a handful of tunes, the solo project came to a halt and Nathan and Dan's attention turned to the newly found band, playing a number of gigs for the Summer and Fall of 2005. However, by late October, Dan also decided to relocate to the Ottawa area. Because the band was geographically dispersed and the two brothers were yearning for a band situation that was much more serious, the outcome of events eventually led to the disbanding of Tied To Fate.
Determined to search for musicians, Nathan and Dan immediately called out to their new friend and colleague, Justin Black (guitar), in order to start a fresh project together, as well as exposing the solo pieces. It would be a short while before the rhythm section came into play: Nathan and Justin eventually meet up with Adrian Blackburn (drums) through school and jam out to some covers during December 2005. The group was finally completed, when Nick Favretto (bass guitar) answered a wanted ad from the group at the beginning of 2006.
Still in their early stages, Atma is beginning to spread their sound. After recording his drum tracks for the forthcoming demo, Adrian decided to resign from his position in Atma in July 2006. It was only a mere two weeks until Atma found Paul Gillespie (drums, keyboards) as their new drummer. On August 9th, 2006, Atma's first independent studio effort, entitled "The Cycle's Demise" was released on myspace for download. With its new lineup, the members are regrouping to rehearse and prepare new music. Stay tuned.
