Velvet Blue

Velvet Blue is formed by the Brazilians Rafael Martinez (guitar), Bene Moreira (percussion) and Carol Neves (vocals). The main purpose of the band is to promote good Brazilian music. In Velvet Blue, each one of the members comes from a different region in Brazil, therefore, each one of them carries a bit of the cultural roots from a native region in the country. Rafael Martinez (guitar), is graduated in Music by the Faculty of Arts in Parana. He has played with important musicians in Brazil and the last two years he has been playing in Europe, always enjoying great success. Bene Moreira (percussion), is from Bahia, he studied percussion at Faculty of Arts in Sao Paulo and in Brazil he has played with important bands from the 90s. He has been living in Europe for 14 years and plays with bands from different musical backgrounds. Carol Neves (vocals) is from Minas Gerais, daughter of Oscar Neves (the famous musician in the state of Minas). She has studied at the Babaya Escola de Canto an important institution which is responsible for the great majority of the new generation of the singers from Minas Gerais. By chance or by faith, the three of them, who have never met in Brazil, ended up meeting in London and found out great musical affinities. Since then, they have been rehearsing and preparing a repertoire that includes the stylish bossa nova, jazz, blues and mixing with the best of Brazilian samba. Velvet Blue has a diverse and refined play list. Not only that, the band is characterized by the new approach given to well known songs. A good example of that is the band version of Nirvanas Come as you are and also the Portishead major success Glory Box. The songs have gained a new musical structure and a new style, very similar to the one created in 1960 by Tom Jobim and other important Brazilian artists: the bossa nova. Velvet Blues members were already mature musicians individually, but their recent union gave a new impulse for their careers and now they are ready to show their music to the European public, which cultivates the taste for the refined Brazilian Popular Music.
